fuel gage not working

Please over look me, I'm new here. A guy brought me his 88 w100 {4wd} with 318. fuel gage not working. I'm sure you guys already know the sender is not readily available. What can be done?

... I tell you what I prefer to do . Is just go to the wrecking yard . & Buy another tank .. MOST LIKELY THE gauge in the next tank will be good.
SO I prefer to just put new different tank in . Now if it doesn't work it's in the dash . Of course it could be it still could be a bad wire .. or a bad ground.

But while the tank is not a cake walk to change . It is just nut's & bolt & a couple hours of time. . I don't like chasing electrical problems .
