Fuel Sensor Fail (Help!)

Mine just started doing this. I sent a message to allmoparparts.com for the part. What kind of clips hold the lines on? Are there any special tools needed to remove them? Or any special tools required to do the project?

No special tools needed. My truck is lifted so I didn't need jack stands.

A block of wood, hydraulic jack, basic tools sockets screwdriver etc. I used the back to help me lower the gas tank but if you have two people it's not needed. The clips are push and release if that is a proper term.

Now I wish I would have videoed my install.

Hi Everyone,
I bought a used 2016 Ram Hemi 5.7 from a reputable dealer and at 33,500 miles I was in a drive thru line and all of a sudden a gas pump showed up on my panel and the gas gauge dropped to empty. i had filled the truck up the day before so I was at a loss. Maybe 10 seconds later it went back to a full fuel gauge and the gas pump was gone.
That was maybe a month ago.
I just returned from a trip from the coast today and just a block from my house it happened again but this time it showed "Fuel Sensor Fail"
I'm bringing it in to the dealer on Monday since this is a Friday and they are booked solid till then - now I'm no mechanic or claim to be one but if this is a dumb question please be patient with me.
Is it stating that the sensor is no good and the fuel pump is still working? Or is it shutting down the fuel pump along with the fail message.
Reason I ask is that this is my only means of transportation so I would like to know if it would be wise to drive or not.

If the fuel pump was shutting down, your truck would stop running. There is no problem with driving the truck with a bad fuel tank level sensor other than you can't see how much fuel you have and your remote start won't work with the Check Engine light on.

Your fuel pump sending unit has failed. Perfectly fine to drive on! I did for 8k miles till I replaced it.
Just hand calc your mileage so you don't run out of fuel.

I've got a 2012 1500 and the fuel levels have been inaccurate for years. I don't have an error code or anything. Just inaccurate levels. For example, on a full tank it shows only 3/4 tank or when it shows 1/4 it seems to be closer to a half tank.

Any ideas if it's just a bad fuel sensor?

has the sensor fuel levels always been that way since new? or did they get worse as the RAM aged? I lived with NO fuel sensor for over a year and just kept track of the mileage. I finally broke down and replaced sensor and pump as a package. I still find myself hitting the trip OD when I fill up though after over a year with fixed guage. I replaced mine sith a Spectra Premium assembly bought on amazon on the advice of my mechanic.

I have read where the 32 gallon tanks were calibrated for the 26 gallon tanks and gave inaccurate readings. I have a 32 tank. At empty warning I still have 6-7 gallons left... but I am happy with what I have.

You can fix the tank size using a tool called AlfaOBD. You have to do the math to covert to Liters but it works for larger fuel tanks.
