Wife just bought a 2024 Jeep Compass Trail Hawk, when talking to the finance guy he said that you will be hard pressed to find a Ram Heavy Duty Truck with a 6.4 in it. They will all be Diesel Cummings in them. Is this true?

No, though they are looking to move away from the 6.4L in favor of another I6. No idea if that will happen, especially with the new CEO, but they've been focus group testing it for awhile now.

Amazing - all their competitors launched new truck V8's for heavy duty's. But not 'ol Carlos or Sergio. No siree-bob!

Europeans don't use V8's OR 3/4 or 1 ton pickup trucks, so obviously Americans don't need 'em either!!!

Aren't they out of business yet? I don't see how Kuniskis can save them at this point - the euro-mafia ran them too far into the ground for too many years while competitors worked furiously to stay current.

On Ram's online configurator a couple of weeks ago no option on the 3500 for the 6.4 anymore. Not sure if that is just temporary or website error.

Tradesman still has the 6.4L standard in the 3500 on the website.

Order guide for 2025 still shows 6.4L in at least Tradesman and Big Horn, I didn't look at any higher trims. Order guides are here if you want to scroll through them, much more accurate than the website build & price: https://sharesync.serverdata.net/us4/s/folder?public_share=3KuGcu8kz7upwD4OihvRVW003f24cd&id=Lw==

In 2025 the diesel option, and it is an option is going to cost $12.5K. Thats something not everyone is going to want to pay for. Rumors are the 6.4 was going to be updated soon, but not eliminated.

Cummins is supposedly designing a 6.7 V8 gasser to go along with the 7.2L diesel.

It will be interesting to see if Ram decides at some point in the future to only offer Cummins in different variants in the 3/4 - 1T trucks.

I have seen that if you want the Mega Cab it's only (so far) with the diesel.

It is likely region and dealer-based as to what engine they order for their yard stock HDs. Around here, 3500 are low in yard stock, and everyone has a Cummins, the 2500 has a higher HEMI mix.

I have read a couple of stories about a gas version of the cummins. It might make sense to offer that in the HD's. maybe enough parts interchangeability to make sense.

I was under the impression they couldn't put the Cummins in the power wagon due to the intercooler issue.not that I would ever buy a power wagon with a Cummins though.I don't know anyone who does.

Weight, per Ram. It's a pretty simple job to have the winch and intercooler.

Aftermarket example:

Unless Cummins puts the gas variant through a major weight loss program, I don't see the gas 6.7 fuel agnostic platform being used in the HD Ram trucks. It will add too much weight to the front end of the trucks without the bonus extra torque and fuel economy of the diesel.

I got a notice Cummins is introducing next generation 6.7 diesel.
All they talked about is ratings.

Having worked there 22 years, my read is they inked a sole supplier continuance with Kunaskis for another 5 years.
If Ram survives that long.

I got an unsolicited email from Ram this afternoon announcing 2025 HD trucks. I configured a new 2500 Laramie with the 6.4L Hemi.

They may not, but they're developing it. Not sure where they may intend to use it.

They are pitching it as a medium duty engine with lower operating costs and longer durability instead of pitching it as more power vs competitors.

That, to me, says they are envisioning it in things like straight trucks/box trucks/etc, small and medium busses, that sort of thing. Customers aren't looking for balls out power and big HP numbers, they want a cost effective fleet.

Weight, per Ram. It's a pretty simple job to have the winch and intercooler.

Aftermarket example:

I seem to recall when the PW first made its reappearance with the winch, there was no Cummins option based SOLELY on the intercooler issue. As in, because of where the winch mounts (directly between the frame rails behind the bumper, not lower and further forward like every aftermarket bumper out there), the intercooler can't be placed in its normal position (directly between the frame rails behind the bumper). On my '22 CTD, there would be no way to have a FACTORY mounted winch without relocating the intercooler, because it mounts EXACTLY where the winch mounts on a PW (I had a '17 PW previously).

So no, I don't think it has to do with weight. I mean Ford has Tremors with PSD's and the winch available, but their intercooler mounts differently. The weight is about the same as a CTD.

I'm pretty sure it's got to do with real estate behind the factory bumper. Sure, if you put an aftermarket bumper on that moves the winch forward, you absolutely could have the winch in front of the intercooler. But they can't physically inhabit the same location.
