75 mph.

You answered your own question. Make the same run at 65, and report back.
Yep. Speed kills your MPG, especially north of 65mph. The interstates in my area are generally 75-80MPH. So just doing the speed limit drives my towing mpg down into the 9-10 range. I'm okay with that. My old gas 3/4ton would be in the 7mpg range for the same run.

My 2003 V10 Laramie would get around 6 to 7 MPG compared to the 2015 6.4L at 10 - 12 with the exact same trailer, load, and speed on my trips to the farm. On 1 trip we figured it cost me $6 to climb one long hill on HWY 71 heading south into Louisville LOL back when gas was really high. I never fret about the mileage anyway. It is what it is and the utility of the truck is what matters regardless.

How fast are you driving? I get 12-14 mpg towing a 6500 lb airstream at 60 to 62 mph.

My local Trans guy who is decades experienced, family business, said to always use Tow/Haul when towing. He said its designed to keep the trans maximized for pulling loads TTs etc. and when slowing down or stopping If you dont use it you will eventually have trans issues because of the stress of towing in high gears. Per mileage : like everyone says MPGs go down as speed and tow weight goes up. If you are worried bout getting great MPG maybe ya shouldnt be towing. Low MPGs is a give-in when towing.

I have basicly the same setup. I tow at 68 and get 11 to 12 mpg.

When I bought the truck used it only had 3k miles and it got much worse gas milage then. It seems these diesels have a long wear in period. After about 15k miles my gas mileage eage was about 10% better on the highway and towing. I can not get 20 or 21 mpg in the highway with little effort on my part, that was not possible when it was new.

When I'm towing our 7-8k lb TT I get 14-16 mpg. When we brought home our new 13k lb 5th wheel I got 10-12 mpg depending on the terrain.
I always keep it to no more than 65 mph.
