You can tow 7k with a 1500 ecodiesel. I have an ecodiesel and a Cummins. The 1500 rides way smoother as a daily driver. But, you feel like a bad@$$ driving a Cummins. I'm getting 17mpg in the Cummins. 23-24mpg in the ecodiesel. Another consideration is if you plan on upgrading your camper you won't have to trade your truck if you get a 2500. Hope this helps.

Go with gas. I have a gas 2500 Hemi (2019) Laramie, and I haul horses regularly. I have the 8 transmission and this truck hauls better than my Ford F250 diesel did. Love it. I did a lot of research on this, because everyone was trying to get me to buy another diesel, but the DEF really put me off, and I didn't need that huge torque any more. In the end, the argument that the DEF is really horrible for short trips and daily driving (as well as saving 9K and being able to upgrade my trim) made the difference. Really glad I went with gas.

Im about to turn 15K on my 6.7 (bought Jan). So far 6 DEF refills @ $7.88, 10k oil change @ dealer 1st one free $102 normally, fuel filters (fleetguard/cummins) $125 (going DIY) other wise its $191 @ dealer. Low 19s mph daily, 14.1 towing ~9500# 5th camper. No regen, no issues (knocking on wood). I will also be towing a skid steer and trailer (~11k#).. THIS is the reason I went CTD over gas, no more buggin' bro-in-law to tow for me.

One thing to remember on the DD, is not to baby it, but also not to hot rod it either. Its about a 50 mile round trip to/from work. If we ever hit the lottery, def going to get a "real" camper.

those are normal mpg figures, my 2018 2wd 2500 6.7 averaged 23.0 mpg over the last 3900 miles only used on trips of 400+ miles, no short trips only used half a tank of DEFIMG_0218.jpg

That's really good mpg. On my mega cab 4x4 I can get just over 20 if I go the speed limit or slightly over. Problem is I'm in the 85-95mph most of the time. Usually equates to about 16.5-17.0 mpg. I'm happy with that.

When I first bought my Cummins I drove Reno to LA and got a hand calculated 19.5 mpg. A few years later with 295/70-18's and leveled and I was getting about 15-16 mpg highway. I never got the mileage a lot of people have reported. Towing my 8000lb trailer I averaged around 9 mpg. My new 6.4 Hemi isn't that much worse.

I am envious fastest i get to drive is 78 mph since my wife watches like hawk now that she knows it is hard to tell while she is reading in the passenger seat if the truck is going 75 or 90 mph with the 3.42 axle. that mileage includes 2hrs idle in stopped traffic 4hrs on dealers lot over winter , some cold weather driving in Canadian Winter. Based on the hour meter my life time average speed is 53.4 mph due to some construction zones as well. good news due to long runs my oil life is still at 67% on factory fill. On track for my first oil change due at 16,000 miles. LOL

Tires make a big difference, the 275/70-18 Firestone Transforce have a low rolling resistance for a E load rating but i aired them way down for better wet traction right from new.
thus do not know what gas mileage i could have had at 80 psi.

i figure what i lost in mpg to higher rolling resistance i gained back by having 2wd instead of 4x4thumbnail_IMG_0316.jpg

I have a good wife. I told her shortly after we met I have a dangerous right foot and tickets and traffic lawyers are part of the budget. I have no intention on changing that and will not accept being hounded about it. I completely understand if that is not acceptable to you. Would you like to continue dating? She's still hanging in there years later. LOL. I will say, if I were to speed, I'd keep under 100 when she's in the vehicle. ;)

I understand , when one is working time is money, or speed will get you more quality time.
Used to commute 70 miles to work, speed made difference, not doing that anymore thus no win in speeding.
I am competing for gas mileage now. LOL

I see it as practicing a perishable skill. I tend to practice at 9/10ths. Sometimes 10/10ths. That's why I sold my Abarth.
Plus, I really needed a truck again! LOL.7e33323e5d92a756363fc991ae2b4bca.jpg
