I have a 2004 2500 long horn hemi with 3.73 gear, I pull a 14000lb fifth wheel trailer and want to see if anyone thinks it would be worth the money to change rear gear to 4.10. I make a trip once a year from Indiana to Florida and the rest of my camping is less than 200 miles from home about once a month.

The 4:10 gear set would work great, very good pulling power and reasonable fuel economy compared to the 4:56 gear set.

Welcome :) I have towed with both 456 and 410 I would ask what is truck used for and how hard do you drive it when not towing what speed do you tow at would you plan on going bigger tires in the future. If its mostly city stop and go traffic 456 would make that much more efficient but free way may suffer in mpg over 410 unloaded especially if you like doing 75+ mph, but just towing 456 will win over 410.

My thoughts, if towing only in the lower elevations, and you have had sufficient power so far, would say, stay where you are. If you were towing heavy and a good percentage of the time and in the higher elevations, would go straight to the 4.56.

My 06 2500 Hemi with 3.73 gears is rated at 8800lbs. 14000 is more than towing heavy. I got a quote of 2k to swap to 4.10's. Screw that I will buy a new truck first. I tow a 33' 8200lb Keystone behind mine. Chugs on the hills but gets the job done.

I have a 08 megacab 1500. I switched to 4.56 gears and the truck is like a whole new animal. Currently in the middle of swapping to a drw 3500 axle. Just swapping gears in it to 4.56 to match the front this summer. I bought this truck for its HD can and the only difference is 1 less leaf spring. Airbags are going on as well. But 4.56 is where it's at. It only increases rpm by 300 when on the highway going 65mph. As far as mpg, it's the same. Truck stays in OD and never comes out even with steep roads.

I agree, the lower the gears, the better the towing experience.....4.56 would be ideal but I tow in mountains of WV/VA.

All flat land, do nothing.
