stock are 275/60-20 and they are approx. 33" tires. The 275/65-20 are 34" and about 1/2 inch wider. Question? Do they fit? Also what is the gas mileage effect. I know it depends on the tread design, but lets see if we can get some examples. I'm leaning towards Firestone Destinations at stock size for under 200 a tire. Comments ON TOPIC encouraged.

I went to a 295/70R18 (which is just about 34.8", I think), I can't wait till theses wear out so I can go back to a 33". You shouldn't have a problem fitting that size under there. Going up on height and width and a more aggressive tread pattern than my last set; my MPG has suffered, but not by much. My acceleration has been hurt as well, but it's OK because it's a 4WD so I don't plan to race it.

Had 275/65 20's on my 1500 and, oddly enough, only rubbed on the passenger side on extreme right turns. Weird.

OP, explain what the purpose of going to a bigger tire, for your application, is. That'll help people give you advice.

275/65/20 will be e rated 10 ply tires which means heavier and a little less mpg. If you get p rated tires in stock size that saves weight which negates mileage loss to a point. The stock sra-s are your best bet for mileage. Excellent road tires, but not great at much else. If I would have kept my stock 20s I was leaning towards bfg at in stock size that are 8 ply. So a bit heavier but not as heavy as the 10 ply
And the 275/65/20 is the same width as stock. The first number listed is width and 275 is the same as 275!!

you will not notice it in looks. Just to have a bigger number on the side wall- not worth it. Unless you have a odd tire size, which is not very common and hard to get, if you want bigger tires, than go bigger.
The width is in mm so the width is the same. The height is in % and due to the math, 7mm more, or the way it rolls with one turn is ~4 cm more. which you don't even notice. all they do is, cost more. fuel mileage- you have it in your foot. other than that I think most is subjective feeling.
I know I will get beat up for this statement but I changed on my old truck from the odd 255/70/17 which was mounted as I bought it, to common 265/70/17, which is mathematically similar, and could not see or feel a difference at all.
If you want to know, try it and if you think you got to stick with it, stick with it, if not, go back to stock.

But I also have to say, that some tires look wider and some look tighter- but that's how the side wall bulges out. it does not affect the surface width.

sure you will. its an extra inch of sidewall, less gap between the tire and fender and an extra half inch of height. plenty of people on here have them...its a noticeable difference.

will your MPG suffer? probably figure about 1-2 mpg loss depending on your tire choice. they would probably look better with a level, but i believe they clear stock. also going to be a bit firmer ride. this is a plus for some people, but it really depends on what your looking for.

Are the stock SRA's a 6-ply or 8-ply tire? I towed a 24' trailer a few times last year and it was a little more white knuckle than I was expecting. I added airbags and that helped a little but things still felt "squishy".

Why does no one just answer the question around here?

Will they fit: Yes.

OK, on to the on topic opinions: 275/65 will look different on the truck than stock in that you will have less wheel well gap. (Mind the gap).

They are going to run a little rougher on the ride, 1. because they are A/T vs the crap sandwich that comes with the Ram and 2. They have thicker construction (more than likely).

They will be heavier, because see above. You will get a little less MPG, because they are heavier and the rolling resistance of an A/T vs stock is greater.

What matters to you?
MPG: Stick with a stock size non A/T. Go as light as you can find while still keeping the stock hauling/towing weight.
Looks: Go A/T
Both: Toyo Open Country A/T 2.

I went with BFG KO2s, 275/65/20 to get rid of the P series baby buggy tires. They fit fine, no rubbing, and give the extra hauling capacity of an E rated tire. No idea how they ride compared to the factory tires as I had them changed before I took delivery, as I have done for the last 16 years on my new trucks. All fine.

A lot of answers and a few questions. Thanks. Seeing that the larger tires are $250 as opposed to stock that are $190, I see no reason to spend the coin for a stiffer ride and a few less mpg. I need to do sand launch for boat and have to pressure down so I think the softer sidewalls are a better choice, though technically may not increase the footprint. I'm done rockin' as I have a jeep for that anyways. SO why bigger? Uhhh bigger footprint on a wider tire and you can never have enuf clearance, but 1/2" why bother. And I'm not going LARGE because my stockers kinda do a decent job. But come on the stock tires are crap. I've got mucho noise with them after only 23K miles. And I had them rebalanced. The toughest decision is tread design. Just seams not right to put street tires on it with no descernable tread design. The Firestone destinations have great reviews for noise and wear. I'm still leaning to stock size Destinations AT's as they are not that aggressive. But willing to go less aggressive.

they ride a bit rougher due to the stiffness of LTs and they hum a little bit at higher speeds. really they make it ride like a truck should and not like an SUV. i also lost like 2mpg

Have people had good luck with the Firestone Destinations?

They are Kanati Trail Hogs, they are a cheaper tire but have mostly great reviews. I love them so far, but I only have about 400 miles on them.
