Should be a sticker on the inside of your door that has the payload capacity on it. I assume you are talking payload (tongue weight) and not towing capacity?

Going to depend on 2500 vs 3500, what trim level, 2wd, 4wd, crew cab, mega cab? They all play a part in what payload your particular truck is rated for. They are not all the same.

Plug your vin into rams website, it will tell you what your trucks towing and payload capacity is.

I never tried it but have heard members here saying that site isn't very accurate

I'll second the website isn't trustworthy, according to it my truck has a 0(zero) payload.
As for gooseneck capacity, take the truck to local CAT scale and weight it. Don't exceed the GAWR (found on the vehicle door tag), you'll run out of axle capacity before you run out of engine.

It’s accurate to the tenth of a pound. It is VIN specific, I’m not talking about the generic chart.

Plugging in the VIN on my 2013 2500 diesel and my 2020 3500 diesel is accurate.

Where are you getting the other numbers from that you are comparing to?

The chart and configurator are based on configuration. Cab bed drivetrain. Basically a tradesman.

If, you use your VIN the website configurator is exact.

Remember the max tow figure is given only these allowances...300lb passenger/cargo 70lbs for hitch and a 10% tongue weight.

I weigh 295 so I only can have 5 lbs with me.

You can figure your base weight by taking GVWR minus Payload on your door sticker. The chart says mine would be 6862.

Mine for instance. 10000 minus 2997 equals a base weight of 7003.

I have a bare bones Tradesman...doesnt even have the shark fin and mine weighs more than the chart. I have the protection group and tow mirrors as the only option.

But if i use my VIN numbers are right on.

You then take GCWR which is based on engine and rear gear.

Subtract base weight from it...and that is how much passengers cargo and trailer/tongue weight you can tow.

The configurator used to be completely off, even with VIN. But a member over at 5th Gen Rams filed a complainant and it has since been updated with 99% accuracy

The payload number is right on my yellow sticker on my door jamb (mine reads 2973lbs). The tow capacity is listed on the Ram site with my configuration.

That chart is for selling and rough planning. You need to look on your door jam to know your trucks ratings based on your actual build. In my search for a new truck, I looked at Tradesman, Laramie and Limited 3500 dually trucks. The payloads varied from 800-1200 pounds less than the Tradesman that I purchased. My door stickers show a 5474 payload (full fuel and 150 driver by specifications). When I weighed my truck with my usual gear/tools, it was 9150. 14k - the 9100 leaves 4900 payload remaining.

So as long as I can keep the hitch weight under 4900, I am rated to tow up to the specified weight. Which for me is just over 34k. I doubt I can achieve that trailer weight without going over the payload. Not necessarily the GAWR.
