I recently got rid of the tick on my 2011 with 270,000 km just by running a few tanks of 94 octane through it so I guess in my case it was dirty injectors making noise. These motors tick for many different reasons. Manifold leak is the most common. I had the drivers side leak and replaced it ages ago and was the cause of a tick. This time I thought it was lifters, but just running better fuel for a few tanks wouldn't fix that so must have been injectors this time. The oe belts seem to be better than the mopar ones. Both times I replaced mine they squeeled for a few thousand km at start up and the factory one never did.

A 2011 model 2500 at my work got the tick about a week ago and it got louder and louder and a cylinder #1 misfire code was thrown. Since we are the warranty now the engine got pulled and we found this. The lifter on the exhaust side has a seized up roller and it ruined the camshaft. Truck has about 87,000 miles but has a ton of idle hours. It’s a non-MDS engine so it makes me wonder if the valvetrain on these engines isn’t sufficiently lubricated during extended idling time (I’ve seen several police cars with failed valvetrains in the past couple of years) or did FCA just buy an extremely large amount of junk lifters?!

Another clear and factual example of the CEO/President of RAM not being told,,,we have another problem with Vendor Management. Our valve train supplier is not meeting the quality control standards/agreement. Our internal quality control department is not doing their job as they are not spot checking parts shipments as required.
As a result, Brand satisfaction continues to decline and customers who are having this experience are telling 10 other people, stay away from the Brand. This is ignorance on steroids.
1. Valve Train failure
2. Exhaust leaks
3. Third brake light leaks
How many years have we reported the problems and no correction has been seen.

Not much different than making Goodyear SRAs the OEM tire, huh? Sad...

Alright so for a while I had a small tick/squeak when started cold for about 3 or 4 seconds but cleared out with my last few oil changes. Now I’m getting a louder tick on startup for about 5-10 seconds sometimes when I cold startup the truck. Sound like manifold bolts? 22,500 miles 2017 hemi
