I’ve begun to notice a grinding/rubbing noise in my Ram. I only notice it while backing up, while the steering is full turn to the left. I don’t hear it going forward. Any ideas?

Not seeing any unusual wear on the tires

If you don't see any sign of tire rub, grinding is often a wheel bearing.

Mine will do it at extreme reverse turning sometimes, and it is similar to what you describe, but its just the LSD in mine. Do you have the LSD in the rear end?

Mine is doing the exact same. In the shop yesterday, back in today, and now I'm in a rental car. Yesterday they check e-brake, cleaned brake shoes and sanded disc. Today they talked about a new backplate. They seem to be having a tough time diagnosing this noise. What's odd is it was just in last week for oil change, front & rear diff oil change, and the transfer case oil change with a piece of mind inspection to boot.

I'm concerned.
RamCares.....can you help me too ??

I’m scheduled to go in this morning. I luckily have an extended warranty so hopefully less painful.

FFS, I’m having a tough time believing it, but the inner wheel well was sagging just enough for the tire to rub on a left turn. For $600 to replace , I decided to have them push it in instead. We’ll see, but this screamed something else

I run stock tires and don’t wheel off-road so those liners should have been pristine

The first time mine went in they had a hard time removing the drum and found my brake disc had some rust on it. They sanded the disc and sent me home only to have the same grinding noise when I backed into the driveway. Next day I took it back and they replaced the backing plate and the noise is now gone. It's been over 500 miles now and the noise has not returned.....hope this is the fix. Thanks RamCares for your offer of help.
