That sucks, here in Ohio we can have it in the open in the vehicle.

Well, the OP can too, he has a carry permit to do so, he just doesn’t want to because his wife doesn’t have a carry permit.

OP, have your wife get a carry permit. Doesn't mean she has to carry but, it would cover you. My wife has hers and I bought her a pistol that she has yet to carry. But, she does know how to use it and if we're ever in a situation where she is in the car with a weapon (rarely happens), she is covered.
In Florida, inside a vehicle, the weapon has to be "securely encased" and not in plain sight. Securely encased is defined as a zipper case, some type of closable container, or a holster with a retaining strap.
If you have a concealed permit, you can conceal on your person....But even with a permit, you have to follow the "securely encased" rule when concealing in your car, and it cannot be in plain sight.

I have a Fla permit and Ohio permit and the wife does too. We carry in the car console at all times. No matter which one of us is driving both have a permit. In Fla. since we are not a resident to Fla. we must have an Ohio permit where our residence is with the gun law for carrying in a car or person remaining the same.Ohio allows open carry as well but as soon as you set foot in a motor vehicle that all changes if you do not have a conceal carry permit. Ohio does not allow weapons concealed on person or in vehicles with out a permit. Stupid as that law is. Darnest thing is that is current the best we have knowledge of right now and we must read the laws every 90 days it seems where they change so much any more.If one has to carry a weapon in a locked state while in a vehicle you would be better off to carry rocks!
My FL. CWP allows me to carry on or about my person in the state of FL. There is no exception made for being in a car. .
Your concealed carry permit allows you to carry concealed. Open carry is not allowed. if your weapon is not concealed on your person, then as you stated, it must be concealed "about your person". If the gun is in your car...and is NOT securely encased....You can be charged under Florida law. Don't believe me...........go ask a good defense lawyer.
Here is how I have mine set up for my Walther PPQ .40cal.... I got a custom holster made with a RAM mount attachment, then bought the rest of the RAM mounts and attached to my seat bolt.

Since this really doesn't belong here . It's now there.Your concealed carry permit allows you to carry concealed. Sure looks to me like regardless of whether or not you have a permission slip to carry in Florida that you can’t have a loaded pistol in plain sight in your vehicle. Which is stupid but then again if Florida doesn’t allow open carry at all, even on your person, it would actually make sense why they wouldn’t allow open carry in your vehicle.
But since the OP lives in South Carolina and is a CCW holder, he CAN legally carry his pistol out in the open, and wouldn’t even have to worry about it when his wife drove or was in the truck if she had her permit too.

The true fun comes when you do a multi state trip and trying to figure out the nuances and laws of each state you will be traveling through. I live in Ohio and we reciprocate with most states for the chl but you still have to find out all these little details.Does not matter where you get your info. Someone will always interpret it differently. With a CHL it is white and black laws with a **** ton of gray in the middle. It will change state to state city to city. Its best to read your local laws pick local cops brains a little. make your own best judgment on the situation if you talk to your local PD you will understand what they will tolerate and let go.
