I currently have a aftermarket OEM style front bumper on my 1996 Dodge RAM 2500 4x4, 12valve. The plastic cover never fit all that well and a bunch of other excuses. The other day I lost my mind and ordered a Hammer Head Low Profile Front Bumper. I did not get the one with the winch mount, because I have no intention of placing a winch on the front of my truck. The only positive things I could think to justify this expenditure was the ability to have some extra lighting, attachment points that go straight to the frame and the front end armor. I think this bumper weighs well over a 100 lbs. I hope it looks good. Does anybody have any input on these aftermarket front bumpers?

I really like that style of bumper. You'd have to hit something pretty hard to do any damage. Although it's a little pricey for having someplace to mount a little extra lighting.

I agree, very pricey. The lighting is poor on this truck, so I will like the extra lighting. I think the bumper will be formidable. Still pricey for a friggen bumper. I have no idea why these cost so much. I already paid for it and have a reasonable amount of remorse. I hope it goes away, I just wanted to do something nice for my old truck that the insurance company says is worth about the cost of the bumper....Ap

the aftermarket bumpers are great, someone was tboned and pushed into my truck about a week or two ago, my truck still runs and drives, I have a minor (in my opinion) dent in my aftermarket bumper. Insurance is paying me $1700 for a replacement. All worked out. I also use mine on at least a monthly basis to push vehicles and it holds up well.

Front end armor would be my reasoning as the plastic front bumpers that the Sport models have is paper thin and won't protect against anything other than bugs flying in the way. lol

I would still add extra reinforcement. Many of those HD bumpers only use the middle frame mounts and not the 2 wing mounts like the factory. I would at least add something there and internal bracing would help as well.

The weld-it-yourself kits are junk. Not sure what that one is but if you have to weld it, add reinforcement not as a pre-caution but as a required longevity item.

I use the Buckstop.biz bumper on my 1999 Cummins. Thinking of a weld it yourself MOVE bumper on my 1997 Cummins.
