As an older guy, I want a bit more stability while climbing in or out of the bed of my 2022 2500 diesel 4X4. I've searched the web and cannot find any sort of a handhold that would mount into the rectangular opening on either side of the truck bed at the tailgate. I know I could make one, but I am the world's worst fabricator. Has anybody seen something like this anywhere, or come up with a clever design? I'm figuring just a short piece of aluminum tubing would do the trick, although it would be rather crude. Any suggestions are appreciated!

That's the general idea. Not perfect, but close. Thank you.

I use these, I have a cap on my 3500 and a hard-fold cover on my 1500, so i can't use the stake handle

I have a Limited truck, so it came with a similar step. They work well, but I still would like a handhold.

I added this to my 2500. 10 years ago I laughed at folks with them. It was the very first addition I made on this truck and boy do my knees thank me.

I just put on a very nice tonneau cover yesterday, but the stake openings are still available.

i could not find the handle that i once found
But here is something that may work for you

i was thinking more along this type
It would pivot down below the BED Rail & when lifted up, it would lock into position

Around here we have farm & home stores called Tractor Supply. I've seen the type of thing you're looking there.

I have a old hoe handle that made a hook on it to drag stuff out of the front of the truck box. I had some stake anchors in one of mt trucks, From Princess Auto , in Canada.
they used a rubber filler with a chrome eye that tighten down on threaded rod, no drilling holes, and quite solid. If One made a bigger loop, like a spade handle, it would not stick up too hi and always be there.
I carry a small step ladder if I have to get in the truck, the days of just hopping in the box are long past., and everything is *&^*** ice and snow.

I still think that i had the best product for bed access.

It is No longer available :(

Originally it was called the DEBO Step

Then it was sold to The DoMore Truck SlideStep
& they never produced them, although, Northern Tool claims that they had them

watch the video, it has a full explanation of the product

This is the Stored position, look just to the right of the left exhaust pipe

My Ram came with the 1" Ride Height, according to the Equipment Listing referenced under my V.I.N.

Tailgate Height from ground, in Lowered position

If they were still being produced, i would buy a DEBO STEP for my 2016 Ram
The images above, were of my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500
