I have a 2015 1500 8 speed 5.7L with 170k miles. Been having some trouble when shifting on a slow acceleration, but only at about 38mph. Always the same gears (5th to 6th I think), same speed. Shifts really hard like it doesn’t know if it wants to shift up or down. No check engine lights come on but a code logs for ‘Transmission output shaft speed sensor’.

This happened before in December at 155k and had to replace the transmission ECU and valve body. Anyone ever hear of this or have any suggestions?

Lots of miles on your truck. Have you kept up on fluid changes?

I would start by checking out your trans fluid. If it has a burnt smell to it, change it immediately. These newer trannys are touchy when it comes to fluid and can cause hard shifting. That seems like a hefty repair for hard shifting on one gear, especially to have the problem surface again. If that code is logging, make sure the sensor is pushed up close to the toner ring (still fully seated, that is) and is at least fairly clean.

If these things all check out, it could be that the shift fork in question is missing a nylon pad on one side or both sides. (At least I think they still have nylon pads on them, haven't been inside one that new). :33:

Hi TWells,

I certainly understand why this would be concerning.
