2016 Ram 1500 V6. Check engine light P0456. Noticed that when I'm parked on an incline and I go to crank it up the next morning the engine turns over for like 30 seconds before it cranks. Anybody have a clue?

Original Battery? Usually that code is for gas cap, but that wouldn't like have hard start, something off gas/air and spark. I doubt this is gas because if it was it doesn't explain why it eventually starts, either battery or air because it sounds like it works fine just not on start, so you can rule out most of "spark", but still possible battery issue. If battery is good find the air issue, and keep running codes, this is the type of thing you might expect to see another code. On incline can you park in the opposite direction, or is it on the street?

P0456-EVAP SYSTEM SMALL LEAK
Should not have anything to do with a hard start

Low on gas when on incline?
Sounds like fuel pump issue.

Well Burla beat me to it ......LoL

I have a 2015 2500 6.4 and it does almost the same thing. Excessive crank time while on an incline both nose up or down. Cranks up normally when level. It’s got 80k miles. I’ve meaning to pull a couple of the plugs and inspect them but haven’t yet. No fault codes.

What the P0456 code means. P0456 is an OBD-II generic code that the engine control module (ECM) has detected a very small leak in the evaporative system during the vehicle off testing. The test has to fail twice in a row to cause the code to be activated by the ECM.

After checking your gas Cap & filler neck tube for dirt or corrosion, or anything else, like a bad gasket.
This should be your next step

Inclined either way it happens, even full full tank. Battery new. Engine runs fine normally. I do notice a slight bump in RPMs now and then.

Probably nothing to do with the code, but the delayed start could be loss of fuel rail pressure after sitting for a few hours. There should be a check valve in the fuel system that prevents loss of pressure, maybe it's leaking back. Does it start right away if it's only been sitting for an hour or 2?

Slight bump in rpm's should never happen, unless something is out of whack. Could be a host of things, I start with vacuum leak. As before, I'm still leaning towards air being the issue here. Could explain both things possibly.

Could that be temp related? Cold start idle ? I believe mine idles a bit higher in winter upon start up .

Also, I’d be looking at the crank position sensor.

My take he is not talking about cold idle, which is always very high.
