I swear I tried searching for an existing thread, but my search abilities stink.

I've got a 2017 crew cab big horn. I need to get roughly 1 cubic yard of black dirt. 2 part question

Will this fit in the bed?
Is that payload too much for the truck?

Anything else I should know before I attempt?

A yard of dirt is about 2,000 pounds. No bueno for a 1500 truck whether or not it fits; your payload is most likely about 1300#. If you like riding on bump stops you could try it, it should fit, but any loading yard I've been to won't load it. Rent a dump trailer, it's easier to offload anyway.

The first pic is my 1500 with 2200lbs of blocks in the back. It worked (barely) but did not drive well and the drive home was slow and white knuckled....not good. I made about 8 more trips with blocks, but dropped the weight down to about 1700lbs per load (which was still probably more than I should have) but it worked.

The second pic is 4 yards of soil (a mix that was about 1300lbs yard) and was a way better option for packing that much weight.

Like others have mentioned, you can rent a dump trailer for +/- $100 at least in my neck of the woods (I bought one) and then place the dirt pretty much where you want it. If you bring it in the bed of your truck, you're gonna have some serious shoveling to do. Plus depending on the rock content, it will tear up the bed pretty good. Maybe not a big deal with a bed liner, but still....there's that. Your back will appreciate you spending a few bucks on the trailer....

Might be cheaper to pay the delivery fee than the rental on a dump trailer. That puts wear and tear and liability on someone else’s shoulders...

best,
