These are still the correct sizes?

High beams - 9005/HB3
Low beams - H11

I've always heard that putting LEDs or HIDs in a reflector would blind incoming drivers. Are you saying the underground lighting LEDs won't do that?

What would you recommend for a 2010 1500 w/o projectors.

The newer led bulbs are ok in a reflector housing. The have correct to focal point leds.

All, my apologies for being late to this thread. First, a bit about my situation. I picked up a 2016 Tradesman 1500 with stock, quad style headlights back in November. The headlights are in great shape, except the clear coat is starting to come off on the drivers side. Yesterday, my wife drove the truck home in rural backroads at dusk and observed poor visibility issues. I have been wanting to upgrade these anyways, so took this as my window of opportunity.

There were a few comments on here about HIDs/Projectors being a superior solution to LEDs in the stock reflector headlights. Up until I read this post, I was leaning towards getting some LED bulbs, taking the stock assemblies apart and painting the housing black (instead of chrome), and polishing up the lenses.

Here’s my question - what’s the downside to HIDs/Projectors versus LEDs? I assume cost, but isn’t there some initial vertical and horizontal adjustments needed as well (not a big deal, just a bit more time commitment then LED plug and play).

If I pursue HIDs/Projectors, does anyone know of a decent set that also have the LED DRL feature? I’m not looking for the cheapest pair of imports on Amazon that could leak or worse, but something that works and looks great, won’t fail for awhile, and won’t break the bank?

Appreciate the suggestions, thanks!

Look at Alpharex or ModifyStreet headlights, lots of members have them and are very happy with them. Lots of options of styles and types. They fit and adjust just like the OEM lights and depending what you go with pretty much Plug-N-Play

As for DRLs, you can use AlfaOBD to enable them on the truck, possibly even adding the dedicated DRL wiring. This thread will walk you through determining if you have the correct wiring and what wiring you need to add: https://www.ramforum.com/threads/what-kind-of-headlights-do-i-have.170404/

crash68, good call on the ModifyStreet headlights...I picked up the Black Crystal reflector quads & they look great - look almost stock, but adds enough flare to make the front of the truck pop.

Also, I can’t remember who recommended the Katana LEDs...but their plenty bright and look great!

I will post pics soon, waiting for the weather to turn a bit warmer next week so I can finish reassembly and programming w/o freezing my butt off.

Okay, so I’m posting this question out of curiosity more than anything - no issues that I’m aware of, at least not yet. I was poking around the net reading about other LED conversions on Ram trucks and a lot people seem to have issues (e.g., bulb out errors, flickering lights, high beams not working, etc.)

Literally all I did was swap out factory halogens with new Katana LEDs and changed the following settings with AlfaOBD:
- CBC Features-LED Low Beam Lamps Present = Y
- CBC Features-LED High Beam Lamps Present = Y

I didn’t use any cam bus adapters, in line relays, or anything like that. It’s been a couple weeks and I haven’t yet encountered any of the afore mentioned issues. Wondering if there are specific conditions I haven’t run into yet or am I just being paranoid?

If you haven't had any problems yet, knock on wood your probably good to go. Now that you've made this post you'll probably get an error...lol.
A lot of the LEDs made now seem to work better at getting around any of the errors.
