Stupid me forgot a bolt. After removing it head came right off but... Back piston on passenger side is snapped off at connecting rod. Haven't taken other head off yet but not even going to mess with rebuild motor since it has 200k miles.

I'm thinking 4bt cummins swap!

wow, new block, So do you know all that is involved in a cummings swap? you should just buy a wrecked cummings. or go the cheaper route and junk yard engine and be done in a week

Just stated looking into the 4bt swap. I have had several diesel trucks and hate being away from them. I have always wanted to build a custom truck but I know that can be a hassle sometimes.

I thought about junkyard for an engine but that could put me in the same boat if the motor is bad.

What are these trucks worth with a blown motor? Interior is perfect. Body is a little rough. I'm sure I could junk the motor and get a little out of it. I just don't want to rebuild it and have a piece of the piston still in there and cause the damage again.

Something you can do to test a junk yard engine is bring oil, a battery with some starter wiring and a compression tester with you to the yard. Make sure fuses are pulled on ignition and fuel of junk truck, put oil in if there isn't any, and jump the starter off your battery to crank it for compression test

This way you can also hear it crank. If it knocks just walk away

Not worth much with a blown motor. I see them in excellent shape for 3500 all day long in the Atlanta area (used car dealer) so there is also a markup

the ones with cummings 5.9 are in the 5k-8k range in OK shape

If the trans is ok yet I'd say the truck would be worth around $3k. I'll agree with s compression test on a JY motor but if you really want a 4bt Cummins swap then all the more power too ya.

You'll have more money in a 4bt swap than you would with a 6bt swap. I would do as Peppy suggested and try to find a good motor, otherwise it wouldn't really be worth your time or money to swap in a diesel unless you are already in the hole like the rest of us, then **** it do whatever

Didn't figure it would be worth much. Transmission was just rebuilt I have a receipt for that. I'm just going to go to a junk yard and get an engine. Might replace all the gaskets before I put it in so its done.
