Recently happened on my 2010, it is a fairly cheap fix although mine was under warranty. If I find the paper work I will tell you exactly what it is but it is but the dealer told me it was a 100 or so dollar part plus labor. I think it was an actuator or something like that.

really a resistor? seems odd to me. motor works just can't control outlet location.

So my symptoms where that the fan only worked on high and no AC. There was all kind of weird noises, and the noises would come on every time I turned the air on and for a minute after shutting it off but no noises at all when the *** was in the off position. This is all I know, good luck

So maybe you have something different

Burla thanks for heading me in the right direction. It turns out to be the " blend door actuator" which controls air location, ie floor dash defrost. Turns out it's fairly common on these and cost about $30 There were a bunch of YouTube vids to help do. Thanks
