I have 2017 6.4 tradesman. Only time I get somewhat heat is when it’s on face heats turned up fully and the it’s set to circulate. Heat doesn’t work on any other setting just blows lukewarm/cold. Replaced thermostat did a core flush made sure coolants good and that helped a bit but didn’t seem to fix the issue. Coolant gets up to temp no problem. Anyone else have this issue or know a fix?

You have a ram with a known issue, many theorize it is casting sand stuck in heater core that over time grows as coolant crystals around it. You right in the middle of that with 2500's of that age. If it were me and the dealer wouldn't address it I'd buy rmi-25 and see if you can dislodge it and it will go to overflow tank where you will need to wet vac it out. Try 32 ounces just added to overflow as a start.

Flushing a heater core with simple water, would never work, whatever used has to dislodge stuff, if you try something else, you need to "see" the results. As the flush is going on see if you are getting sand dislodged and is actually coming out, or you wasting your time.

Ram Forum friend hemi395 found this gem. I bought two 32 ounces RMI 25 after watching this, no joke.It may work may not work, but the heater core is such a crap job/expense it is worth a try. 7 minute mark he recommends an additive, I can tell you rmi 25 is the best one I have found for what's that worth.

go to 4 and 1/2 minute mark and see for yourself...

How many hours do you get for this? From some of the tubes out there it looks like a big job. Is there a quicker way to do this?

For frame of reference, I use a very reasonable priced shop and it cost me $1,300 parts and labor just for the heater core replacement. I had them do the condenser and all 5 actuators as a "while you're there" thing, but that was an additional cost.

That's a good price, I had someone price out something similar and it was $3500, she ended up selling her vehicle over it. dealer quote

Yep, and that was using OEM components... no aftermarket. After the condenser and the actuators I went out the door with a bill for $2k total. Took them 2 days to do everything.

That's a fair price IMO.

I've had some serious hit or miss luck with RA. I mean yea their nicest aftermarket cores are about $200 cheaper than the OEM, but to me as a customer, $200 is a decent price to pay for peace of mind.

did you see last video posted? That is what it is entailed to change a heater core in a ram. a grand is a fair price for the consumer for sure, I'm not so sure it is a fair cost to the shop. If you could find that great, but I wouldn't expect that was available everywhere.

Yep I saw it. Not sure what we're talking about though.... I am well aware of what it takes to change one, and why I paid to have mine done. I can't speak for what the shop can afford but the consumer got a reasonable deal. The only thing I was talking about was the use of aftermarket vs. OEM. On a job that difficult I personally would choose OEM just to try and minimize the risk of doing it twice (both as the shop covering warranty and the consumer paying for the initial repair).
