Im wanting a performance exhaust to help lower EGT's while towing my 5th wheel, but I'm not wanting it crazy loud, or should I say the wife doesn't want it loud. Didnt know what advice you guys could give me between the 4 or 5 inch exhaust by MBRP.

Thanks

I like the 5" just because it filled my cutouts better on my 4th gen bumper. It paired good with my 18" magnaflow and actually made it sound a little louder/deeper!

For the most part unless you plan to add a decent amount of power (over 500whp) the 4" exhaust will be sufficient and you wont see any benefit going with a 5" over the 4".

Check out sound clips, I'm personally not a big fan of 5" sound but a lot of people are

I'm guessing its not worth about the $150 dollars more for the 5 inch. over the 4 inch. The only other performance mods I have is an Edge tuner and I'm getting a cold air intake and that will probably be as far as I go. I spoke to the customer service guy from XDP and he said my EGT's would be 100 degrees lower with the 5inch over the 4 inch. Thanks for your info everyone

It's mostly a matter of sound preference, like others have said. The drop in EGT from a new exhaust are mostly a result of removing restrictive factory components such as the cat, muffler, resonator, DPF in 6.7 trucks, etc. Pipe diameter between 4 and 5" should be mostly negligible with regard to effect on EGT.

Keep in mind that all 3rd gens are 4" from the factory, except the early trucks which were equipped with the 305/555 motors. They were only 4 inch from the muffler back.

Even the farmboy diesel budget 5" is around $330
Most stainless exhaust are $600 and up

Thanks for letting me know about this website I just got done looking at it. The MBRP 5 inch with a tip through Auto Anything was 497.00 after their 15% off code compared to FBD at $420 and Auto Anythings MBRP 4 inch with tip was $322.00 after 15% off code. I didn't see a 4 inch kit through FBD besides a daul kit. FBD does have a lot better price on the 5 inch, now I'm thinking I might cancel my Auto Anything order and go with FBD.

Did you check out XDP? They usually have good prices and will do a 5% or more discount for forum members/new customers
