Help! Shock troubles

I have procomp pro runners adjustable shocks up front. I've had them for months now with no problems. I check them every now and again and today I noticed a problem. The bolt on top of the strut is pushing up through the shock tower way too far. I talked to procomp and they said they believe it is due to a failure in a OEM part called the "top hat". I'm planning on taking it to the dealer in the AM because I dont have the time to take it apart myself.
Any thoughts???

Something definitely is broke or missing in there. Shock bolt is loose. Threads on the bolt look stripped? They are all rounded over.
