Hello all. I have question I have an 18 ram 1500 sport. I have the factory side steps I removed them because I didn't like how far they stuck out from side of truck. I am wondering if I were to put a steel spacer between mount bracket and where they mount to truck to suck them in closer to the truck if that would work or if the body metal mount area is to flimsy. Thanks for an ideas or solution. I'm not interested into buy new steps. Thanks

just curious...I have an 18 Laramie with factory steps and they seem to be in a position that allows me to step out and be right on it without looking down to locate the step...

and was wondering how far you intended to "suck them in"? Seems if they go too far in, you could have a hard time actually getting you foot on it getting out of the truck...

On a different note, if you put to big of a spacer on the stud, you may create more leverage than you want and in turn, might cause the stud to snap, being that the step is now fastened farther out on the stud (closer to the end of it vice against to the body panel)...

Just a thought...

Ya that's my concern as well to much stress on the bolts. To me they just look like they stick out from the truck to much. I thought about trimming the bottom of the bracket but the bracket has a slight curve to the so that option is out.

Glad you asking the question, I had the same idea. Our side steps stick out like a pair of low-hanging nuts.

I figured I could make, cut or modify the current brackets but after looking the complexity is way too much for me. the only option for me was to maybe just raise them about half an inch or more by putting a spacer underneath the actual tube of the rail. Anything more than half an inch I might have to get new bolts and That's 6 per side. I am currently keeping my eyes out for spacer material like delran or aluminum or such.

Unfortunately the bracket still hang low and hit everything I drive over.

I have used washers to secure them better to my truck, without any issues. it should just spread out the forces.

Did you bring the brackets in or lift the tube?

Seems to me, the best way to go is to replace the boards with something a bit narrower.
