Help with wheel tire selection

Hey guys. Have a 2012 ram 2500 longhorn Laramie. Finally time to change out the tires so my wife said I can do the tires and wheels at the same time. I have talked to many local shops about doing this for me but none are willing to explain literally anything to me. I am a tire wheel noob. I had moto metal 951 with Bfg at' son my 06 Dodge Ram and I was happy with those but they came with the truck so I don't know how to select my own. I kinda like the helo he878's so I thought maybe I could find a package online to buy and just have installed here. There are however 9000 different helo he878's how do u know what to select? My truck is bone stock. Nothing has been added. Can anyone reccomend other up grades to my truck. Have a few bucks to spend if there is a good deal on hid's or anything. I would add a picture of my truck but don't know how. I have had it since new btw. Bought in 2013 but it's a 2012

You could start on a site that tells you what fits like tirerack. You can even see what the rim would look like. Then just decide where best price is and best reviews on rims you find.

Ok I tried what u suggested. I agree that seems to be very easy. However I still find this to be confusing and cumbersome. I have learned an awful lot about wheels and tires which I didn't care to learn. So here I am now.

I am looking at installing Fuel Mavericks and toyo tires on my truck.

I know I want 20x9 rims but don't know if I want +20 or a +1 offset. My truck will be having a 2.5 inch level kit installed. One company told me I need +20 and the other said +1 so that's awesome . Help with this would be appreciated.

The tires I want are toyo at2's open country's either 35/12.5/20 or the 295/65/20. The 295 have the ability to hold 80psi unlike the 35's that I think are 65psi. I have in my truck the ability to leave my truck on light load making it so I don't have a problem with a light on all the time. So for the money since the 35's are cheaper would I be better off buying them. Or should I stay with the 80psi 295's. Any help with this would be awesome. Believe me I have done research.

The 35s will look a bit better I think. Depends how much and how heavy you tow on the tire size. If it were mine I'd get the +1 and 35x12.50s. They will stick out some though

not for nothing but if you dont care enough to learn, how do expect anybody to help you? you should want to learn as much as possible about wheel and tire fitment to make the best decision (for your liking), and not have regrets later on.

with that said, i would go with the 295/65/20's since they can be inflated to 80psi, they are 15 lbs lighter per tire, and they are a true 35" tire (35x12.5 will only measure 34.5 or so). you wont miss that extra inch of width. +20 offset will give a little poke, and its what i would probably go with. +1 if you want them to stick out a good amount or want to run flares.

just tell the tire place that you want to test fit. tell them if it doesn't fit you want to try something else. Discount tire is good about that in my area. as long as you end up buying something from them they will be very helpful.

they told me i could order whatever tires I want and if they don,t fit they wont charge me.... as long as i buy something else.

I'm trying to buy the rims and tires myself online so test fit doesn't work. My town sux for wheels and tires. My dealers said buy the rims and tires I want and they will install them with the level kit and such.

Of course I don't want to learn everything about tires and rims. Once I make this purchase I'll be done for years and will likely forget what I learned. It's not exactly easy. One shop says I need +1 the other says +20. If even they can't determine which one how would I ever?

I really just don't want rubbing or trimming involved. Is there a less chance of that with +20 or +1?

A little like meaning they stick out a little? I have a Laramie longhorn so they have some factory flares on there. I would like the tires to stay in that range and not poke out further than the flares.

well if you dont want to learn by doing research you best bet would be to look through the forum pictures. find something that is similar to what you want and PM that person.

other than that its going to take some real research. learning what offset, backspacing really means. compare to you stock rims back space/offset, do some actual measuring on your truck with a real tap measure. it took me months ( almost 4 ) to even figure out what tire type and size would suit me best. asking questions is part of that but self research is more important.

Yeah, the best advice is to find a photo of a truck you like (or one on the street) and buy something similar. +1 and +20 is more about looks and style, which is subjective, one guy likes more of an OEM stance (+20) another likes the wheel poked way out to the point of probably needing flares (+1). Which kind of guy are you? I exaggerate, as the difference between +1 and +20 offset is less than 3/4 inch. I'm assuming 35s fit with both +1 and +20 offsets.

If you tow or haul, 80psi tires are much better, if not 45psi tires ride softer.

My best advice for you is to stay away from BFG with a 2500.

You own a big boy truck and need big boy tires. Even there "E" rated tires are a little soft and while work well at first, can cause issues at 50% or less.

Don't take my word for it. Google it.

The new KO2's are a whole different ball park. I know a few with them on their 2500s and have great sucess. 1 of them had the last version, KO's, and wasnt fond of them but loves the new ones. Most peopoe that dont like the bfg AT's havent had much first hand experiance with the new ones.

Good milage results too.

The closer the wheel is to the truck, the less you'll have to trim. Anything with a - offset.. trim with a level and 35"

I had to "climb the learning curve," too. I still wasn't sure I'd like the combination (or if it would even fit without rubbing) until they were actually on the truck. Very happy with it, though.

Sans the negative nancy u guys have been very helpful. I really want let poke so I think I am gonna pull the trigger on some +20's. Those are some beautiful pictures of trucks. I put a pic so u can see what my truck looks like currently. I may look into cooper tires. But I'll prolly just get toyos

need help...i keep seeing different responses and im wondering if someone can clarify. im working with a 2013 bighorn 4x4 and want to go with a bigger tire. i have seen posts where people say 305 55 20's will fit without a level. i was going to go with toyos or bfgoodrich k02 but not hip on puting a level on. is it safe to assume they will rub?
