I'm not trying to go the performance exhaust manifold route, rather just a stock type set up that doesn't crack/warp/ or bust bolts off.

Maybe the BD Diesel might be a good alternative to an OEM style set up?

There is currently one bolt busted off on my HEMI, but the heat shield is still attached(usual culprit, R side bottom rear)and amazingly, no exhaust "ticky pop pop" .. yet.

The time has come *sigh* - the startup ticking is becoming more than I can bear @ 60,000 miles.

Seems like BD Diesel is the choice. I plan to call and ask what gasket and bolts are in their kit. If I remember, I'll report back.

Nobody wants to mill down a quarter inch of cast iron with a belt sander around here.

Doubtful it's warped 1/4......you would definitely have broken bolts
Probably 1/8 or less

I do have broken bolts, that's why it's leaking, right? Doesn't even matter anyway, it's gonna break if it ain't broke. I can barely look in there without the wheel removed.

So I called BD just now, the say they make their own gasket and bolts. Yes, make.

@Wild one - you know these guys? They're north of the border from me, would you use their gasket and bolts or get the remflex 6022 and ARP?

@HEMIMANN, it really doesn't take that long to sand them down on a belt sander.

I used Everbuilt hardware from Amazon. Over 80k miles since my repair and no issues.

Do you know if your bolts are broke flush with the head or not? Drivers side? Passenger side?

I felt around, can't tell, but it ticks loudly on startup.

No, I'm not sanding the damn things, nor taking them off. Unless I were 15 years younger with a vehicle lift.

Never had anything to do with their hemi manifolds or hardware/gaskets. If it was me,i'd check your local marketplace or even ebay for a set of used manifolds and then sand them flat Brian,so you have a set ready to go when you replace the bolts. They're about 10 hours west of me in Abbotsford,so not really around the corner and down the block, lol

My mechanic installed BD Manifolds for my 5.7, I even brought him remflex 6022 gaskets but he didn't use them, apparently the design of the BD manifolds makes it hard to get them working with the remflex gaskets, don't remember exactly what he said, but he just ended up using the gaskets that came with the manifolds. So far so good!

Thank you for replying.

It seems BD gaskets are glued to the heat shield they supply.

Are the exhaust manifolds different between the 6.4 and 5.7?

The only "update" I've seen to the 5.7's manifolds were the addition of tie bars in ~2018-19+
Chevrolet did the tie bars on the small blocks back in the late 70's. It worked. I still own Chevy small block warped exhaust manifold spreaders :).

I think MOPAR did this, but now reports of manifolds breaking instead of bolts. I've talked to a few that had it happen.

BD has thicker walls. Have not heard of breakage with them which is why I'm giving them a try.

Yes exactly, manifolds themselves are breaking now, which is actually a good thing since it's much easier to pull these off when the bolts aren't broken. Flip side is that you can't just machine them flat as they are cracked and basically trashed at that point.

Which manifolds, though? Any? All?
Or only the redesigned Mopar ones?

I'm installing new exhaust manifolds on the 4.7L I'm installing in this 2002 Ram 1500. They are Dorman products. The kit for each side included impressively high quality steel shim gaskets and new flange bolts and nuts. I bought new high strength bolts and flat washers from a local fastener specialty company. Torqued them to 25 pounds. The original engine was fiercely overheated. The driver's side head puked coolant out onto the block and into the inside of the bank 1 exhaust manifold, as indicated by rust scale inside the #5 & #7 exhaust runners. I don't trust the integrity of the castings well enough to expect them to survive de-torque/ retorque/ overheating enough to reuse them, and have confidence in no future cracks or leaks.
