Hey guys just looking for suggestions on what would cause a tapping noise at operating temp on a 2011 ram hemi sport. i just had the manifold bolts replaced, cold start its smooth as silk but by the time i get across town to grab coffee in the drive thru i hear a loud tapping from both sides of the engine but it goes away after driving a bit. Seems to happen more when at quarter full operating temp if that helps. i took a video of the noise from cold start to when the tapping starts which is about 5 mins idling but i shortened it. Any suggestions are appreciated! Could my manifolds be warped?
Thanks in advance!

Definitely internal issues.......maybe audio but doesn't sound good on cold start either

IMHO, very humble, I am not a mechanic, Cams/Lifters. My thought would be bad adjusted lifters. But since U did not rip open the motor like that, and it is not a 67 Chevy, hmmm, lifters. But PPL post when they do the lifters they pull and replace CAM also. U gonna have to get a motor head to chime in here. Do not go on what I think, respectfully.

i did just have my manifolds done again a few months ago. could the manifolds be warped? noise seems to go away when fully warmed up. but at quarter op temp it taps like crazy in drive thrus.

Mine sounds exactly like that and if I am reading correctly it is doing the same thing, quiet cold start, half temp or so its ticking like that, full temp super quiet. Mine is 2015 about 63k. On another note my 2013 with 84k had the cam and lifters replaced under warranty but never made that noise that way. It started with the tick and never stopped at any temp and went from a tick to really bad with CEL in about 2 weeks.

Oh and just to say it before anyone asks, manifold bolts were replaced at about 58k.

yes the manifolds could be warped if they were not machined during repai r.

Well If you had the exhaust bolts replace I would assume you had a exhaust leak that made a noise reason being they were replaced.
In your video noise has more of a metallic tap vrs a tick from exhaust leak.

On start up you have a lot of rattle noise.
Most exhaust leaks have a more ticking noise on cold starts.

did that noise get any better as it warmed up? did it gradually get worse or just show up one day?
Mine seems fine at full op temp and sounds smooth but just at quarter temp i get the tap which is weird. did you have any CEL or misfires with that noise? thanks

that tapping sounds just like mine. my 11 sport has 200k on it almost tho. 18 should be under warranty, i would have the dealer figure that one out asap. if you do take it in please report back! Any driveability issues, or slight misfires with yours at idle?

Sounds like piston slap to me. Good luck with getting any Ram dealer to acknowledge there's a problem. Trying to get rid of my '17 at the moment.
