Looking at the invoice I saw the same thing. 218 per lifter times 16 equals 3488. Surely that's a typo. Either way the OP should probably ask about that. A complete set of OEM lifters from rockauto is around 950. But no cam replacement? The cam may have been OK but that's very unlikely. Then 569 for a gasket set that half of it was only used. The gaskets that are needed and cant be reused should cost less then 200 I would think.

Im sorry OP. I would check into the price on those lifters. 218 could have been for set of 4 lifters not a single lifter. They are usally sold in sets with 4 lifters being in that set. So you would need 4 sets for the engine. 4 times 218 is 872.

Edit: Just thought about this. Could have a cam been part of the "lifter" cost? But they listed everything else.

The lifters arent going out whatever that is, push rods are the suspect if it gets louder, that happens a lot after lifter/cam, they tend to bend if they weren't cupped right. If it is push rods or a bent push rod, it will just get worse and never better. I don't know that is what I heard at this point.

You say the second it happened was on new 5w20 oil and not one minute before? The best known tick killer is 5w30 redline HP with a high flow filter, look up polls in my sig and read them.

Yes as soon as I changed the oil it started to tick , i went thru 4 different brands of oil and 2 different filters to see a change in the ticking noise and some additives and they didn't do much .

By the looks of that bill, they put all the same lifters in the engine, when 8 lifters should be mds lifters and 8 should be non-mds lifters, unless they changed to a high performance cam and tuned the truck to run all non-mds lifters.
I need to get in touch with the shop that did the warranty work to see what exactly they did

Three THOUSAND five hundred dollars for lifters? Are you f’n s’n me!?!?

The whole set is $700 from the dealer.
Jesus

**Edit** ok price has gone up but still $1000 not THREE

The truck needs 2ea of these sets

Front lifters
Rear Lifters

Sorry I couldn’t make it past that before commenting… going back to read now.
Luckily I didn't pay a dime , not even a deductible so I wasn't to worried at that time but as the other members are saying I need to get in touch with the shop to see what exactly they did

So there is a poll or 2 and a thread with 100's of ram forum members. You left out plenty of info, it isn't just 20 versus 30 weight, it is a specific high performance oil that is borderline more of a racing oil then shelf oil with many features that stick to metal. But regardless, people should use whatever works, in your case 20 weight work, sounds good. There are a few just like you, so it isn't totally rare, but the larger group gets relief from viscosity changes and/or high performance formulas. 80% of people that use 5w30 redline kill their tick, as in when that oil is put in a ticking engine 80% of it is erased or substantially better, most engines it kills the tick. That information is not from me, but long trusted members here, votes are public. If you are still not buying it it's ok with me cause I am not selling anything. Bottom line if you have hemi tick try some different things, don't settle with the tick unless you like it.

redline erased hemi tick 62 votes

redline partially killed tick 28 votes

redline didn't kill tick at all 15 votes.
Interesting. I certainly didn't mena to offend anyone. After I did my cam and lifters, along with HV oil pump and other stuff I used 5W-30 Mobile 1. It ran great, no tick until the truck sat two weeks while I figured out the Anti-theft lockout. When I got it running it had the tick immediately - I figured bleed down from sitting so I ran it for a couple of days and the tick never went away.

I then did an oil change back to 5W-20 and immediately the tick went away.

I am in Florida so a little concerned about next Summer when it is really hot here but that may be unfounded as the engine will reach it's operating temp and within a few degrees difference should remain there regardless of outside temperature, so it really shouldn't have an affect on the oil.

Thanks

That is quite the bill!

I took mine to a dealer and they quoted me $11,200 to do the cam, lifters and replace 1 head they said was cracked. The head cracked was pure BS but I threw on a set of reconditioned heads anyway.

I told them to F off, drove it home and did it myself for $4,000 but I replaced both heads, both exhaust manifolds, water pump, HV oil pump, OEM cam, OEM lifters, timing chain, VVT sprocket, VVT solenoid valve, all 4 MDS solenoid valves, harmonic balancer, head bolts, cam bolt, damper bolt and several pushrods.

you get a mis fire code, specific to a given cylinder, which tells you that cylinder cam lob is wiped. Prices are all over the board, oil control valve tells you if it is a good idea to replace or if you need a new engine.
Ok. Have no codes or check engine. Just a ticking noise

Hey there , I'm new here and decided to share a video on a ticking sound I hear after my first oil change. Long story short I had a full lifter job done because of a warm idle tick and when I got it back it was nice and quite even when I drove it like I stole it sometimes .... but when my oil change was getting close to 4.5k miles I decided to do the change with Mobil 1 5w-20 and a wix xp filter , drove it for a bit and when i step out my truck i hear a ticking sound when idle on operating temp. I thought it was the oil so I changed to PUP 5w-20 with a rinesol additive for lifter noise , i drove it for 50 miles tick was still there so i changed it to mobil 1 5w-30 and tick got a bit quite but was still there so I did 1 more change with liqui moly special tech 5w20 and lubeguard biotech and tick is still there but ima put some miles on it before I decide to go to the dealership( i hear the lubeguard sometimes takes a bit to quite down the lifters?)my truck is a 2018 ram 5.7L with 97,000 miles currently Hemi tick?
I know this may sound stupid, but make sure your exhaust manifold bolts didn't break, this is a lot of the ticking noise people hear. I'd replace them, because they break often.

My buddies have the tick turned out to be exhaust manifold bolts broken,

Turned 140000 miles, last week. Valvoline 5W20, Full Synthetic. Oil only changed when the indicator says it's time. Multiple exhaust bolts replaced, but other than that, no noticeable tick. I have driven it like it's stolen since I bought it. Only mechanical issue was a noisy rear-end after a fluid change, dealer rebuilt it under warranty. Maybe I just got lucky to have a Tuesday built truck.
