I would like to upgrade the looks and visibility provided by my headlights on my 2014 Ram. Not sure which way to go? What would everyone recommend? Visibility is most important.

I just installed my Opt7 LED headlamps and fogs. I like them, except I have a little issue that I need to fix this afternoon. I think I know what the issue is. Anyways, I've had HID before. Now, I could be wrong, but I had them in my old '09 Corolla and I hated them. I didn't like that they had to "warm up" to get to the full brightness level. It could have been that I purchased a low-end HID kit, but I really didn't like them. The brightness of the LED's and the fact that they don't have to "warm up" is great for me. I personally would recommend LED and specifically the Opt7 brand. Seems to be what a lot of guys on here recommended and I'm glad I went that direction.

Here's a link to my album with the install: http://www.ramforum.com/members/drummin4jc-albums-opt7_headlights_fog_lights.html

If visibility on high beams is what your after , www.harness-connection.us has a harness kit for 2013 + that allows you to turn on the fogs with your high beams !
I ordered mine last week , I can't wait to install it , I do a lot of rule road driving and gravel roads too where not much traffic , I have the stock chrome quads .
Hope this helps !

I would say if you're not planning on altering the headlight housings at all then the LEDs are definitely the way to go. I've heard good things about their output with factory quad headlights.

If you are willing to alter your headlights and add a set of projectors with HIDs then that will blow the LEDs out of the water. At that point tho it's not so much HID vs LED but more the output and beam pattern from the projector is excellent.

After using HIDS, it would be hard for me to change to another type of light. Everyone who gets in my truck comments on how bright the lights are. They're crazy! My vote is HIDs

I just installed opt7, this is my first time trying LED. I haven't had a chance to check them at night, yet. I've ran hids in my last 4 trucks and I think, the opt7 look brighter than any 35w hid. I can't wait until it gets dark to go really test them out.

I have been running the New Brights led bulbs in my ram for a few months now, and i will be converting to HID as soon as my kit from DDM ships in.

I have used DDM hid's before, and im pretty sure the light output of the HID is better. LED lights have a little way to go, I think, before they outperform HID's.

I have also gone thru two bulbs on my passenger side, because the fans started to fail. Two bulbs started making crazy noises and had to be replaced. I think the hid lights will be a little more reliable too...

I like switching up and trying new things but my vote goes to Hids....at least for the heads/fogs.

Leds are nice but I don't think they're on par with Hids.

How did the lights turn out at night? any complaints from oncoming traffic? Thanks.

In my state (Georgia) it is illegal to put HID in reflector housings after market. Be that as it may.... I like the instant on of LED's for my high beams. In 2016 Laramie with projector low beams I put HID in the low beams, LED in high beams and fog lights.

You will have to adjust them down a little bit. Had one guy flash me so far and that was because I was going uphill and he was coming down. Don't think he was too happy when I flashed hi back... :flipthebird:

Drumming4JC,
I have been thinking about getting these opt7 led and I think you have convinced me. I too have the dual head lights. Have you though of installing one of these. Its called a casper shield or a glare shield, supposed to help with glare and clean up the cut off.

I installed these two identical harnesses, one for each side , you simply plug them between the headlight assy and your fog light plug and it allows you to use your headlights as normal from the light dial . This harness kit allows you to run low beams only , low beam with fogs and the best part is when you turn on the high beams the fogs come on with the highs automatically . Imo this is a fantastic kit , cheep and a simple plug n play.

No, I haven't thought about installing these. I'm really happy with the setup right now. Although, I'm wondering what's going to happen after I get my lift install and try to turn these down even further.... Those poor people coming towards me... LOL!

Hello Adam

I'm interesting in this kit, and I saw your photos about this bulbs, and I like the look for your truck with this bulb and how bright it is, and I want to install this bulbs on my truck, I want to know it will fit directly in the headlight or need some work to fit inside.

If you have the single bulb headlights, then yes, they will fit just fine. One thing I will tell you is that with these LEDs, you have to have them perfectly vertical in the housing. I had to turn mine ever so slightly to ensure they are straight up and down. If not, the pattern won't reflect correctly and you'll end up with a dark spot on the road. You can see that in my album as well.

Any of you guys who have done the led's in projectors is it worth doing the fogs as well? I'm looking to possibly order from The Auto LED company up in canada and he offers a full low/fog set up or the lows only, just curious if the fogs are truly worth doing as well. Especially since I have Gunsmoke Lamin-x on my fogs... thoughts?
