I think I'm addicted to HIDs......I should probably be tested.

I got a set of 35W 5k from DDM with slim ballasts with the intention of putting them in the reverse lights. The swap itself is really easy. Just cut off the old connector (I left enough room to splice it back if I ever want to go back to it), and the splice the existing wiring to the ballast connection. That's it as far as wiring goes. Then use some epoxy to hold the light there.....that stupid epoxy what gave me fits. Passenger side went on fine, driver's side just didn't want to stay for some reason. I finally got it to stay though. I learned that I HATE epoxy...

I do have one concern. Is there ever the chance of the epoxy coming loose? Whether it just be over time, or get jolted loose? I was pretty rough with the light putting it back on (on purpose) to make sure the light stayed in place, which it did. I just don't want to worry about it coming loose, melting the tail light housing, and possibly catching fire...

I did use a ton of epoxy just to be on the safe side...but still has me a little worried.

I sure can. Compared to those LEDs I had before, this blows them out of the water.

The idea is most definitely there.

Do you know what temperature the epoxy you used it rated? I would have used traditional JB Weld, it's rated to over 600°F. Obviously your housing would melt first.

As long as the bonding surface was clean and roughed up, it should hold indefinitely.

Thanks guys. I just picked up some 60 second epoxy. I would have to look at the package later to see what it's rated for. I only got it because someone else that's done this mod said that's what they used. It seemed pretty solid when I put everything back together.

Should be fine, Just don't leave it in reverse for hours on end and you should be totally fine.

Very nice mod. I have thought about doing that. I really do not like my Recon Reverse LED's.

Thanks Scott!

Whew, that make me feel better! The first time using the epoxy I don't know what I was thinking, but where I put it it, it didn't stick....so I already have a partially melted socket lol. Cleaning melted plastic off the bulb was....well a chore. :Grenade:

I learned after that and redid both sides. Now they are holding good so far.

Very nice mod. I have thought about doing that. I really do not like my Recon Reverse LED's.

If your Recon LEDs were anything like my superbright LEDs, the HIDs are much, much better. I lost output going to LEDs from stock actually....but not anymore.

I think you win the brightest truck contest...

What do mean...I'm only sporting 10 HID lights and a set of Silverstar Ultras. :D

Sometime I have to find a really dark place and get a shot with ALL lights on. I bet I can be seen from the air. haha
