I had an issue recently where, after an oil change at the dealership, I immediately saw higher oil temps than I'm used to. I thought it was all in my head and let it go. Kept an eye on it and intermittently saw higher temps on a few short drives. I work from home and only drive maybe 30-60 miles a week. The last straw was a 60 mile drive that has a couple of big inclines. Saw temps similar to what I see when towing a loaded toy hauler...but while I was completely unloaded/not towing.
Immediately got another oil change the next day and saw my normal temps again on the same drive. Pretty sure the dealership put in the wrong oil weight on the first oil change. Hope this helps someone. I was loosing my mind and wish I would of followed my gut when I first noticed the issue and went back to the dealership after that first drive from the dealer.
2019 Ram 2500 6.4 power wagon
Normal average oil temps 210-230
- I also noticed that normally, when I do hit the higher 220-30 range, if I back off it, it cools down pretty quickly.
High Oil temps 235-250
- not towing anything
- higher temps take a while to cool back down
