I believe it. During this summer my average was 20.71 across 18 fills.

One trip from Rochester to Painted Post, NY on I-390/87 gave me 24.85, empty and just me.

2019 Ram 1500 Billet Silver Laramie Quad Cab 2WD, 5.7 Hemi, 8HP75, 3.21 axle, 33-gallon fuel tank, 18” wheels. Build Date: 3 June 2018. Now at 124444 miles.
I got almost 22 mpg on a 4050 mile trip from TX, to NJ, and a bunch of other places and back, hand calc. I now get a lil over 20.00 ish on Hwy since I went to Heavier Falkens. But alas, weight management, fuel used, SKINNY pedal application, weather, all cuts into truck performance. But hey, it is a Hemi, not a Toyota Camry.

Anyone want to venture how much, if any, highway mileage improvement you can get with a bed cover or shell? Back in the 70s and 80s there was a lot of talk about installing a bed cover or dropping the tailgate for highway travel to pick up a couple more mpg.

Also, please don’t show photos of trip computer mileage figures without qualification you have verified the accuracy with actual calculations. Most of them are greatly inaccurate.

I have a 2024 1500 HEMI with 3.21 gears. With 10,000 miles on it. The best I have gotten on the highway (no towing, no load) is 17MPG.

Will it get better over time?

My used 2014 1500 HEMI with 117,000 miles had 3.92 gearing and I got 22MPG HWY at 65MPH.

Other than that I love the truck!
I have same setup. Avg. 19 mpg.

I have a full bed tonneau cover, but TBH, not sure, maybe a 1 mpg increase, but I put heavy Falken Wildpeaks on truck so any gain was a loss. The cover more of a convenience in keeping stuff partially secure or dry from the weather. But I do not have a heavy diamond cover that can take weight on it, I have full tonneau fiberglass which does well to keep items in bed dry, since it overlaps sides, front and over tailgate.

CAVEAT: If you want a cover, get for convenience and purposeful use, not for a mpg addition. ALL IMHO...

My 2016 Hemi 3.21 gets 20+ on the Highway at 70 mph. Go faster and needle goes down quicker. Averaged 21.5 on a 13k mile drive to and from Alaska. Here’s a picture of the dash indicator when I rolled into my driveway at trip conclusion:View attachment 557153
Heck of a trip. Did the math shows over 600 gallons of fuel. Wahoo, that may have been a nice lil bite outta the budget.

My 2022 RAM HEMI with 3.92 gears gets 18-19 around town and 21-22 Highway as long as I stay below 70 MPH.......70+ I get 19-19.5.....still very good for a BIG FAT BRICK!!;)
Sold my Tundra DoubleCab 4wd with 8ft Bed and a 4.30 rear rated at 13-17mpg

I am buying a RAM 1500

I have to make a choice between two RAM 1500s

Both are 2022 with non-etorque Hemi 5.7
Truck A has the 3.92
Truck B has the 3.21

Open for input on which one to buy.

i do occasional light towing with a 17.5 Deep V Aluminum Boat with 75hp Merc on it

Would the 22 Hemi with 3.92 get better mpg then my Tundra???
