Ask any opp. Drawbar is not an attachment. It's concidered part of the bumper. We have opp in our defensive driving courses occasionally, and one trainer is an retired opp officer. This has been brought up many times. You can't legally be charged.
More if it's an attachment mounted in the reciever such as one of the bike racks, a cargo tray, or anything yes, they are an attachment. The drawbar is part of the hitch. Perfect example is the hitch for many European cars, it mounts to frame and comes up around the bumper, you add the ball size of choice.
Also, the reciever on many vehicles sticks out past the bumper, jeeps are a perfect example of this especially the older ones, not even taking into account the spare tire.
The only reason I'm Ontario, you can be find for the hitch in while not towing is if it obstructs view of the licence plate at all.

Ok let’s agree to disagree. If you go to the X Copper site and they fight the trailer hitch tickets all the time. And yes you can receive a violation. In Ontario. P.s. a family member is in Ontario law enforcement and it that person stated you can receive a violation. But seldom are given out

Congratulations. I call my 3500 the Granite Beast. That 8’ bed with Dully makes navigation in tight spots a little tricky, but a breeze backing in. I opt to park in the further away places and take up two spaces—further adding more for the “haters” in the world to complain about more. Plus health benefits walking the extra distance all adds up —physical and mental health: better shape physically and peace of mind knowing you didn’t create anyone undo pain. Lol

I've parked in the back of the lot for years. Don't like door dings and need the exercise. Might run into you sometime.:)

Ask said family member to sight the exact section of the ontario highway traffic act that you can recieve the violation. Only possible one is obstruction of license plate. There is no other. I challenge them to show it.

the mto guidelines say something to the reference of anything that was not factory installed and/or passed safety and emmission standards at the time of manufacture
I seen operating a unsafe vehicle, do to operating vehicle with alterations that can cause injury or damage to persons or property

611 Vehicle Safety Inspections
Schedule 1

Was told anything that 'protrudes past the rear bumper" is in violation of the HTA & the fine ends up close to $150 by the time all the extra's are added on!!

I keep this in full time and it should provide some protection and makes a nice step.

This is false, a trailer hitch is not included. You cannot be legally fined for a hitch left in here in Ontario.

You might want to recheck that.

I worked at GHQ for 20 years and have had conversations with more than one Copper about this topic and they said the same thing. You can be charged but usually not pushed.

Yes and that is all I am saying. From the beginning. It is a charge. I never started that you would lose. If you took it to court. But you would still have to go to court pay court fees to fight it.

All I ever said was you can get a ticket

It the same as a cop can ticket you got having a dealership plate Bessel on your plate. It is dum but they can write you a ticket. And we all knot dealerships love you driving around with a mini bill board on your car and you had to pay them

I hate back in parkers. Youre not cool, you're not a super hero and not a get away driver.

This just made me realize how worse it is with a truck.
But you might be a 1st responder......2nd it is safer to back into your parking space in the morning at work and pull out after a long day. I have a in-law that was / is head of HR at a bottling plant and everyone is required to back in to their parking spaces in order to decrease the likelyhood of injury due to someone backing up and hitting an employee at the end of their shift.............

Anyone who has had a hitch has run into it with their shin or knee at least a couple times. Used to leave mine in til I couldn't get one out. Sold that Ram with the hitch included. Haha

I don't care either way but I take mine out, it's ugly, it will win if I hit my shin on it and it might take me a whopping 10 seconds to remove or install it. As far as backing in I've done it all my life. Think it started in my youth just in case I had to leave in a hurry for any reason! Otherwise since they started making backup cameras it makes it so much easier to judge space and park without hitting anything!

WHAT?? In Canada you have to have a license plate frame from the dealer who sold you the car or risk getting a ticket?

Driving a dually, backing in is the best way to go to avoid door dings from careless kids (& adults) from swinging the car door into my bedside.
Besides that, I usually back in over a curb so less of the truck (CCLB) is sticking out.

Sidenote: if you're walking so close to my truck that you hit my hitch then you were too dam close anyways. Backoff!

If the parking spots aren't angled, it's easier to get in and out of a spot in a long bed crew cab. That's why I back in. Makes life easier.
