Driving a dually, backing in is the best way to go to avoid door dings from careless kids (& adults) from swinging the car door into my bedside.
Besides that, I usually back in over a curb so less of the truck (CCLB) is sticking out.

Sidenote: if you're walking so close to my truck that you hit my hitch then you were too dam close anyways. Backoff!


In your case, you’re better off taking up 2 spaces (front to rear), that’s a lot of truck.

In your case, you’re better off taking up 2 spaces (front to rear), that’s a lot of truck.

Sometimes I have no choice but to do that or my nose sticks out too far. I always park out far so no one gets butthurt for me taking 2 spots.

I hate back in parkers. Youre not cool, you're not a super hero and not a get away driver.

This just made me realize how worse it is with a truck.

Backing in is not about being "cool"... its about safety. As a result of accident data, many major corps that have fleet vehicles require their drivers to back in upon arrival. You have better visibility/awareness of conditions upon arrival, and better visibility when pulling out. Having worked for one of these companies, I can attest to the value of backing in. Again, not about "coolness or "super heroes," it's about safety and understanding that the couple extra minutes it takes to back in on arrival could very well result in avoiding a collision, or striking a pedestrian... simply because of better visibility. So next time you have to wait for someone to back in, try to be patient and understand they are being safe.

Old habits die hard. I retired 4 years ago and I back in all the time. If I'm in a parking lot, my first option is to look for a "pull thru" space. I've taught both my boys (who drive cars, not trucks) to adopt these habits from the time they started driving. They've become pretty proficient in a short period to time.

I used to leave my hitch insert in all the time until I went to trade in my 2007 Ram. It had a 2 5/16" ball on a solid steel insert and it was stuck in there. Tried beating it out from behind, tried hooking it to a tree and easily pulling forward. It was stuck. Ended up trading it in with it in there. I did ask the dealer to get it out and I would pick it back up and they said they couldn't get it either.
I've had them stuck too Had on in a van I never got out tried all the above. bought a F150 with on stuck in it hand to use heat and a 20 lb sledge to get it out.

One of the benefits of the B&W tow & stow hitch is it easily flips around when you're not using it so it doesn't stick out. It's a tri-ball and available with the 2.5" shank. That's why I said earlier if you hit my hitch you're too close anyways. I'll never buy another hitch.
