Yes, have to pull the heads to get the lifters out. Pull the pushrods & it may be possible to spin the cam to get lifters to stay up. But I wouldn't chance it on hoping they stay put.

Okay was hoping I wouldn’t have to do that.. guess l need to invest in some head gaskets then

I'm okay at doing some mechanical stuff.. I'm always wanting to learn how to do something and never afraid to try it myself. I changed my 3.55 gears out to 4.10's myself (took me a month lol) but nothing is impossible as long as your willing to take your time and are a patient.

But my father-n-law has built race cars and swapped cams out so figured it wouldn't hurt to have a second set of hands. Plus it'll be cool to build the truck with him..

I'm in Bartow County, GA so not too far off from you. Maybe I can give you some pointers after we get it done?

I'd love some pointers! There are a few videos that are really good but still leave a little to be desired. I with I had a badass camera and someone to film the whole process and I would try to make a very in depth video but that'd probably hold up the actually swap a bit.

And yes, headers need to be removed in order to swap the lifters...if you are swapping a cam and are not at least inspecting the lifters, you are taking a pretty big gamble.

There is a video on youtube of a dude removing the heads in less than 30 mins. Good tips on that video

Yep, gotta remove the heads, and replacing the springs will be ten times easier with the heads out of the truck! What lifters did you get?

Yeah that’s the only draw back to doing all the video’s it does take longer to do the stuff but I guess in the end it pays off for guys like you and me!

No doubt might as well replace all of it while you’re in there...

Sounds like that it’s the best way to do it then.. just purchased new mopar head gasket and head bolts so everything will be fresh.

Pretty sure they are the hellcat lifters from what I’ve read. I know they are none MDS lifters.

Cool. Do us all a favor and take some good close up pics and side by side shots of the new and old lifters for comparison's sake when you do the swap, I'll send you your beverage of choice if you do! Hit me up on the

Balls deep is my assessment of how deep he’s into this one...

Are you planning on replacing the head bolts with studs?

Hahaha only way to do it! All or nothing..

Nah I just went with new head bolts. Got the valve springs installed and heads cleaned up. Going to take my time with this like I did the gears. Not my daily driver plus I can enjoy it and not rush through it.

Rumor has it the thing that you have to be really careful with is the timing chain etc.

Yeah that’s the next hurdle is pulling that phase limiter off and keeping that chain nice and tight and pulled off to the side. We’re going to make 3 reference marks around it so we know it goes back in the same location. I don’t want to have unbolt that oil pan and fool with the oil pump.

Just wanted to swap in a bigger cam for more power. Springs, lifters and rods go along with it for the most part. Plus it’s getting rid of the BS mds system..

New lifters on the right... honestly look the same minus the hole in the old lifter. I’m assuming that’s for the mds system

I did notice that one lifter was starting to become hard to roll with like a “gravelly” feel to it. Thinking one might have been on the way out [emoji15]
