your experience is nearly identical to mine. The frustrating part is I came from a 4th gen set up exactly the same (Limited, 5.7, 3.92) which got nearly 21 empty on the highway, and 13-14 towing my boat. This 5th gen gets no better than 16 highway and 8-9 towing. With 20k on it is surely broken in. I looking to trade it for something less thirsty. If they still make the limited trim in the classic I would just get one of those.

Yeah, I did my first fill up, the dash said 14.7 mpg average, and my hand calculation showed about 13.5.

If I end up in the 12 range after break-in I will be a happy camper. As it is today with about 270 miles on it, I get about 20-22 on the instant (lying) meter with the cruise set at 70.
Lie - O - Meter there to make U feel good. Some are close, mine is pretty close,. I just leave on the MPG stuff for amusement. I never worry about MPG, cause if I did, I would have gotten a Diesel and not the HEMI, lol. I get 11-13 mpg towing a 2150 lb trailer with 4000-5000 lbs of hay loaded, motor has just shy of 20K on odometer. Get 17-21 on Hwy, depending upon speed, traffic, etc.,. Unloaded.

ADDED: As Crash said, no towing first 500 mph per manual, then gradual towing and motor is still breaking in. If U R towing so soon, I for sure would change out the oil earlier than later, with a good Quality Full Synthetic and Good Synthetic Filter, just a saying. All IMHO.

8-12 mpg hand calculated when towing.when i brought my new ram home from alberta averaged 22 mpg and did get 26 mpg on one leg of the trip with winter blend and a heavy foot 12 mpg in the summer 14 mpg and on one 250 mile trip just 2 of us in the truck we got 29 mpg doing 65 mph. all in all not bad plus the ride and super quiet just floored me i am very happy with this truck will be hanging onto it for at 7 years lol.
