OK so I’m looking into buying a buddy from works fun truck and can’t seem to find an answer on this. It has a hood stack and I’m trying to figure out if that would prevent it from being street legal or if I would be good with it that way. It’s no problem to go to my exhaust shop and either run bed stacks or a full exhaust, I’m just curious if I would be ok to leave it as is because I think it’s pretty bad ass that way.

So you sig suggests hemi, but I am guessing you are interested in a Cummins? I can't even imagine how many fumes you will suck you if you leave them on. I know a better option, pick up smoking cigs and don't buy the truck, probably be better for you, lol. Straight diesel exhaust straight from manifolds, man buddy you be cray cray. If it was a modern diesel like around 1990's-ish you need cats, so that most likely wouldn't be legal, but that is a guess as Texas is a little different.

Never mind mufflers / the 83 db thing and the whole exhaust must extend past the passenger's compartment caveat.

Just spitballing here. Sure, some get away with it, but if a LEO has a bur under his saddle, you are going to speak to a judge.

If any of the exhaust emissions equipment has ben removed, it's illegal: Texas Transp. Code Section 547.605 Emission Systems Required.
Don't let anyone tell you that since the vehicle inspection is going away January 1st, you can do whatever you want. I'm a crusty State Trooper and will enforce 547.605. No burr needed.

perfect we need more of this.. I get sick and tired of breathing diesel fumes by the guys that are tuned with big exhaust that think they are cool when leaving a stop and smoking everyone behind them out.

honestly stacks would fix this problem :roflsquared:
the ones i find the most annoying are the ones that roll a 90s econoline ****box powerstroke type vehicles down the highway that puff blue black clouds incessantly doing 50 mph on a 65mph highway just smoking away all the traffic behind them

All kidding aside, if you want to do a performance mod, don't make it noticeable...

A friend of mine has a 2010 6.7L Cummins which has a moderate tune and it gets it and he doesn't roll coal so to speak.

Yes, properly tuned diesels emit very little, if any, smoke. Smoke is partially/unburned fuel meaning all the energy was not extracted from the fuel put into the engine.

A bunch of liberals just died after that show :burnout:
My concern with that truck would be that it's been abused and may be a pile of crap that is a money pit.

Ok. So the federal law is that relocating any exhaust component is illegal. So rerouting the factory exhaust, putting the muffler in a different location, etc.

Not necessarily enforced, but that is how the law is written last time I looked. Granted, that was about 10 years ago when I was rebuilding a classic car, but you know they don’t delete old laws, they just add to them.

In Texas it is illegal to have a good stack and is also illegal for bed stacks. Although 99% of the cops will allow bed stacks. I was not one of them.
