I’m shopping for a used Ram 2500. Payload capacity is important to me. I found one at a dealer’s lot about 2.5 hours away. I called to ask them to look at the sticker on the door jam, but he said it doesn’t have one. I looked up the VIN decoder on the Dodge forum. It says the payload capacity is 3,360 lbs, which is surprising given this one has a Cummins Diesel engine. I thought the payloads were lower on those.
That said, when I put my VIN in the decoder, the payload is spot on. I did it for a couple of other VINs for new trucks I looked at locally, and they were also very close.
Is it possible the payload of this truck is actually 3,360 lbs? It’s a Tradesman with relatively few options, so maybe the VIN decoder is accurate?
