you would probably need to upgrade to the 8-spd with 3.21 axle ratio to get better fuel economy but it's payback time/cost probably wouldn't be worth it.

That Hemi fun pedal, use it a little as possible and keep the speeds down for better fuel economy.

Anything that increases weight and surface area, such as big tires, brush guards, roof mounted light bars, extended mirrors, fender flares, lift kits....will kill your mileage. The only thing that that will improve mileage is driving habits. Blasting off at stop lights, passing cars at top speed, revving the engine just to hear it roar...all that stuff kills mileage. When I drive I intentionally try to get that green ECO light to come on as much as possible.

Where have you read about guys getting 20mpg average out of a 2500?

On a 1500, it's possible.

On a stock MDS equipped 1500, with the ZF8 transmission, it's easily attainable.

With gas prices just shy of $5/gal, I've been mindful of going easy on the go-pedal for my 80 mile round trip work commutes with my 2019 classic w/hemi. I can get ~23mpg average tank to tank per the dash display this way in the warmer months. It hand calculates to 22mpg.

My truck is stock, with stock 17" passenger tread tires, aired to the high end (~40psig).

Many 2500's will get 20+...they will be cummins powered, and not hemi powered though. I had several cummins powered trucks and all would get over 20 mpg...granted the 2012 I had needed to get the emissions crap deleted and a tune to do it, but after that it did it regularly.

not even close to the op's ?.my bone stock 2500 /5.7 with i think had the 6 speed, can't recall, with stock size tires never once got anywhere near 20 mpg hwy or city downhill with a tailwind.skinny stock tires and as little weight as humanly possible may get you 12 to 14.or you can get a cheap commuter 4 banger car.

Here is the highway mileage from a trip yesterday. My truck is a 17 and I run 91 octane and don’t disable the mds.

I am running a 2021 2500, 6.4 with 8 speed and 3.73 gears. I have got just over 20 a couple of times, but the long term average for city, highway etc is about 16 mpg. To get 20 on the highway I have to stay under 65 mpg, go easy on the go pedal and not have a headwind of any kind.

This is headed west through the mountains past Jasper Alberta after filling up in Jasper.

2500 is just too heavy to get 20+ mpg on a hemi.

I have a 2010 ram 2500 5.7 . I read about guys claiming to get 20+ miles to the gallon which I kind of doubt but is there anything I can do to increase mileage... such as would upgrading to a newer 6 speed trans help?

I get better mpg when outside temps above 80 degrees.

I get that...when I quoted the other poster, he had said that no 2500 will get 20 mpg. I agree if that 2500 has a hemi. I disagree if that 2500 has a cummins, 20 mpg is very doable.

Just do what the guys you refer to are doing. ( assuming they are driving gasoline powered trucks ) Just tell yourself you are getting 20+ MPG on a routine basis and believe what you tell yourself. What you cannot do is take a long highway trip at 55MPH with a horrendous tailwind and level terrain, compute the fuel mileage for that one trip and call it your overall average for thousands of miles. Good luck with however you decide to handle it.
edit: And don't believe the "Lie-O-Meter

On my '15 2wd 1500 8 spd 3.21 with the Hemi, my evic usually shows about 1 mpg higher than hand calculated.

Most of my miles are a good bit of stop and go, 26 miles to work, about 6 miles of which is interstate. My evic will usually be at ~19.7mpg.

Traffic really sucks in my area of Flatistan, as everybody seems to be moving here to escape the more liberal areas of the country.

On road trips in the SE US, the evic has gone as high as 24 mpg, with hand calc at ~ 22.5 mpg.

My truck is bone stock, except for LT "E" rated tires, which did lower my mpg a little compared to the stock SR-A's. It is a truck, it should have truck tires, IMO.

I do like to use the skinny pedal from time to time, so that will pull my numbers down a little bit, but I can usually keep my evic at or near that 19.7 mpg if I go easy on the skinny pedal. Have 141,000 miles now, and use 87 gas exclusively.

Trucks = enjoy consuming gas in mass quantities. Sorry, I’m not going to be someone who drives a truck to save on gas. Frankly, I don’t get it. If you want the best fuel economy, buy a Diesel, but the offset is the higher cost of maintenance So using a bit more gas, is it a push?

Just drive your truck. When gas is low, buy more.

If you want fuel economy, buy a Prius or a plugin that you charge at home. Forget a supercharger at 90% the cost of fuel.

Drive a small fuel efficient car.
It's a truck, built to do work.
If I need to conserve gas, I drive my beetle. If I need to tow or haul something (or just have fun) I drive my Ram. Yeah it costs over a hundred bucks to fill her up, but that's the price of driving a truck.

I was wondering if new Fuel injectors would help along with cold air intake. Problem is its a daily driver and I tow 7K trailer on the weekend's just trying to improve a little bit. I do plan on switching out the Trans to a more modern one when it's time but till then ...

The EVIC shows 15-16 avg mpg on my 16 2500 crew cab/short bed w/ 5.7 and 3.73 gears. Run 89 octane exclusively
