How do you know if you have 3:21 or 3:92?

I heard the Canadian trucks are rated at 395 MoosePower, which is a much more majestic power rating system. Also I believe the horn goes “Sorry” instead of “Honk”.

I apologize, my Canadians is showing.

My 2015 Ram came with locking rear and 3.92. I love how this thing peels out at every light when u put ur foot into it.
I wish I could make it say sorry, that would be hilarious.........

I just found out my 2017 Ram Sport has the 3.92 rear end. Quite pleased

Did you use the vin# method or pedal mash to find out

Sadly not an option, but maybe some o'canada air horns would be the next best thing.

Now I want to build a general eh'. Exactly the same as a general lee, but with a canadian flag on the roof and o'canada air horns.

Cut-off the male end of an old 3 prong cord and insert to keep crap out of it when your not using it
It should already have factory supplied cover on it. There is enough cord to go out the tow hook hole on mine if you undo all the tie straps ( on my 2010), on my 2014, I just left it on top and open the hood as I don't need it unless on the road, as the garage I have stays above freezing unless it is -30 or -40 , yes that happens in w.c . Canada, Mont.

goram17, if the truck has the anti-spin rear end it wont melt tires even with 3.92's. Not a good method of deciphering rear gear ratio.

I stand corrected. 72 mph is 2100 rpm.

IMG_1188.jpg This is my truck with stock size tires. I have 4.10s with a 545RFE, 5.7.

Like I always say: 4.10s aren't low, they're proper.

This is a great tool to have and a great tool to use prior to buying as well. I've used that while shopping for the 3 rams I've had, really helps eliminate what seems like 80-90% of the trucks out there that come with the 3.21's. At least in my part of the country.

Lots of other good info on those build sheets as well.

I live in the Mid-South TLO area where Trucks are king. I see 80% of the lot with 3.92. I don't tow near what I used to, so I'm looking for the gas savings of the 3.21 and that's hard to find near me. Go figure.

P.S. aren't the 3.55 only in the V6?

they may have changed it on newer models, but my 2010 has the 3.55 and the 5.7l V8. I've been happy with it so far as a good middle ground.

Haha yeah that figures, I think up here they are all just ordered with standard equipment so unless someone special orders one with 3.92's, we don't get them up here.

I believe that you can still get the 3.55's with the hemi, but not if it has the 8 speed. Yet you could have either the 3.6 or 3.0 ecodiesel with the 8 speed and 3.55's, if I remember correctly.

Put a mark on the tire and one on the driveshaft. Have someone count the revolution of the shaft compared to the tire. Almost 4 turns on the shaft tells you have 3.92 and 3 1/4 turns indicates 3.21( which sucks anyway). My grandfather tought this a long time ago.

That's very true but can not be done if you have the anti-spin lsd or locking differential

Hi, I’m new here - I just bought a 2014 1500 - 67k mi
I ran the vin and it says 3.21 Rear Axle Ratio - what does that mean?
This is my 1st truck

It takes 3.21 turns of the drive shaft to make the wheels go around once. The other gear ratio available for the Hemi is 3.92, despite it's higher numerical value it's actually a lower gear ratio which is better for towing heavy loads.
Daily driving the axle ratio won't make much difference, you actually get slightly better fuel economy on the freeway with 3.21.

If you mash the gas and the truck hops, you got a 3.92
If it just kinda takes off with little no fanfare, you got a 3.21

I think the above grandpa is correct when lifting both tires in the case of LSD differentials. As I recall from decades ago, for a non-LSD, lift only one tire then you must make that tire do 2 full revolutions to account for the spider gears, counting the driveshaft revs to get a close approximation of the ratio. And here's another thought: The ratio in any diff may well be what the factory says it put in there, but the gears could have been changed out, or even (gulp!) the factory may have errored in the VIN listing. Hope this helps.
