When building out a 2022 1500 RAM, either Trailer-Tow Group is offered, or one can choose just the towing hitch and trailer brake pkg. I don't see those options when building out a 2500 using the build apps https://www.nadaguides.com/ or https://www.ramtrucks.com/ (ramtrucks doesn't have the 2022 builds yet.)
The nada site does offer a 'Towing Technology - Group B', but it is just a bunch of cameras, sensors, folding mirrors - but no trailer hitch, etc. Are trailer hitches and trailer-brake kits aftermarket things that are order once the 2500 truck is delivered?

On my 2021 2500, the brake controller and the hitch were listed as part of the "standard equipment" on the sticker.

Yep, standard equipment on the 2500 i do believe. If you are talking about the 5th wheel prep package, that is something you can add to the order, but if you are talking about the receiver hitch under the rear bumper, that should be standard.

Tradesman and Bighorn trim 1500 do not come standard with a receiver hitch.

Rebel Laramie and Limited 1500 come standard with the class IV hitch.

All 2500/3500 trim levels come standard with a Class V hitch.

First of all, you must know the terminology

Trailer parts

1627601765584.png
Trailer Hitch Receiver .. it is the part that you can factory order.
it bolts completely underneath the truck bed & fastens to the trucks frame
(when buying it, you will have choices between a 2" or 2 1/2" Hitch Size, also called the Shank.
several people complain after they purchase the noisy 2 1/2 size.
You need your trailer to fit it properly. you don't want to use a spacer)

Ball Mounts
Can be a Fixed Mount or Adjustable Mount

His post reads 2500, which is why I said it is standard. If looking for 5th wheel hitch, that is an ordering option.

If i ever had the need of a 3/4 ton Ram
I would consider spot welding that supplied Adapter into the Hitch Receiver

You just get the proper 2.5" shank ball mount.

The the reason they went to the 2.5 is because they added capacity. You use a 2 inch ball mount...you will be limiting your truck.

My max tow rating is 12,500. I got a 1300/13000 lb ball mount with a 14000lb ball

You can not do that with a 2 inch mount.

I use the adaptor for my small hitch though...but I sure wouldn't weld it in there

I used adhesive backed stainless shim stock on my adapter and I had to "tap" it into the receiver. There is zero play. And the adapter stays there. If I don't have a ball mount in it I still lock it in place with the pin.

Yesterday I had my trailer brake installed at dealership on my 2021 Tradesman 2500. I bought it with 3k miles so it was considered a used car even though the guy that ordered and bought it, (then returned it to dealership for refund after being shamed by friends for not buying a Ford). It had the standard hitch on back but I have a 5th wheel and needed to install that plus it had no trailer brake. It did have the control cluster for accessories which was useless to me. It also wasn't sold with the PUC system for 5th wheel. I digress. So after being quoted $200 for parts and another $200 for installation & programing computer, I was handed a bill of $509.00!!!! That represents a staggering 2.5X the cost of an after-market system installed! While I love the athletics of the dash that was a big check to write for a brake! Watch out for dealerships!

As others have said, class V receiver Hitch is standard on 2500- 3500. I got the fith wheel package at the same time and have the brake controller but do not recall if that was standard or part of a package. One tip, if you park your truck in a garage and have trailer mirrors GET THE POWER FOLDING ones. I got lucky and order power fold, otehrwise I would have to get out and manually fold them going in and after coming out of the garage each time. Despite having slightly over 9' wide doors it is just too tight to go in and out with the mirrors deployed.

I don't park in a garage but have used the power folding mirrors many times . Our neighborhood has narrow streets and I've folded more than once to get past a garbage truck or whatever.
Also I fold them in a crowded parking lot. Rather than chance someone walking into them.
They come in extremely handy!

There isn't an aftermarket trailer brake controller that integrates anywhere near what the OEM does. The OEM controller uses not only braking force but also vehicle speed along with information from the ABS and vehicle stability control system to determine the amount of trailer brake force. That's why it's important to properly adjust the brake controller for the trailer, which you shouldn't notice the trailer pushing or pulling on the truck when braking.
