How easy would it be for myself or the dealer to replace this chewed up black piece at the base of the antenna.

I just took delivery of the 2016 Ram 1500 Crew & this was just one of the many issues I had. The paint around the antenna base was scratched but I fixed that with some polishing.

They installed Bushwacker fender flares on my truck so I'm thinking they had to do something with the antenna as a result.

If it was delivered like that why not take it back to dealer to handle as a warranty issue. Am I missing something here?

That's what I'm intending to do, but was wondering how easy it was to do myself.

I'm leery about going back to the dealer because the quality of the work that the dealer put into the installation of some of their own accessories was pretty bad.

I changed that piece out before. It's pretty easy. There is the black piece. Then there is the chrome nut with the notches in it. Then there is the antenna which has a wire whip that extends from the fender through the door to the the inside passenger footwell.

you could just get a stubby antenna or do what i did and cut the oem one shorter and put it back on. the reception of the radio is still good and that giant antenna is alot less noticeable
