Super simple, and do the V6 fan swap at the same time.

For me draining the coolant without making a mess and removing the fan is probably the hardest part. 1 hr. job.

So far it sounds like it's worth changing. Thanks guys
It’s not that hard just make sure that you put the new one on a piece of cardboard and lay it on the ground so that way when you’re taking off the bolts one at a time you can put them on tge new one where they belong there all different sizes easy to confuse them. Once removed swat one at a time to tge old one then install. Use the gasket for sure!!

Don't want to read all the posts, so back to the original question. Mine's a gen 3 (2007) and the water pump went (and boy, when it went it dumped everything in a hurry) at 62,000 mi.

2011 ram 1500 4wd hemi 120,000 miles. my AC pump had to be replaced with condenser. Since doing this exposed the water pump I had it changed with the thermostat. It seemed to be in ok shape but I would definitely do it again.

I changed the water pump on my 11 at about 70k miles. It wasn't leaking but the bearing was making noise
70k? Yup!

My 2004 Ram 1500 V6 spit up its bearings at about 70,000 miles since new. Since replacement #1, I've accrued over 100,000 more miles and I just replaced it for the second time a couple of months ago. Coolant loss through the weep hole had been getting worse for over a year and it got to the pont that I had to add coolant every 100 miles, so I repladced it again with the same aftermarket part. I figure the first replacement beat the OEM part (and it didn't similarly fail me castastrophically) and 100,000+ isn't too bad for a water pump.

I bought my truck used back in November 2018 and it had about 116,000 miles on it at that time. Then nearly a year later in Aug 2019 at 125,790 miles the water pump failed as I was getting on the freeway. That was a $1,300 repair bill.

Then in Feb 2021 at 153,656 miles, the water pump begain to leak again; however, it was covered under the shop's warranty. They covered the parts and labor to replace the unit. No problems since, and truck now has 174,000.

I changed my H2o pump after it started leaking a few months ago. I have a 2008 6.7 CTD and it has just about 150k on the odometer. At first I was dreading it because I was finally finished with my under the hood mods and didn’t realize that this was / is by far the easiest water pump to replace . It’s right up front & center , you don’t have to drain anything prior to removal . Didn’t have to mess with the belt(s) . There’s only 2 bolts to R & R and an O ring is the gasket.

My truck is a 2013 at around 160 000 km (100 000 miles)

I try and balance my maintenance by mileage and time of year, it's cold in Canada so I prefer to work in the summer when I can.

This summer I will be giving my coolant system some love. I have the coolant and I'm going to replace the thermostat and the rad cap.

The ex mechanic in me says this is a really good time to swap out the water pump, but I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble. I haven't heard of a lot of guys having water pump issues on here so I thought I'd ask first.

Thanks in advance.
If you’re running a clutch fan do it sooner than later
but I wouldn’t wait
anything over 60,000 on the OD is ripe
I think you’re about ready for a T-chain if you say you’re at 100k
That’s everything pulley tensioners t-stat pump hoses crank seal gaskets the works

Just turned 100k on my 2014. Still original water pump. No leaks, no squeaks. Replaced T-stat and flushed the coolant, proactively. Thinking of replacing the pump this summer. Not touching Timing chain, unless there are issues.

I replaced my water pump on my 2015 Ram Big Horn with over 100K miles, YOUTUBE has some good videos, big help, trace new water pump and mark bolt holes on cardboard template, bought replacement water pump kit. Kit comes with fan clutch, replaced thermostat, didn't realize it was 185deg but this doesn't seem to be a problem with it running cooler.

On my '14 my water pump blew at 70k miles. Fortunately it was around town and covered by extended warranty.

About every vehicle I have owned that has more than 100k miles on I have had to replace the water pump. 1999 Durango, 2001 Durango, 2002 Dodge Ram, 2000 GMC Sierra, and my 2012 Ram had it done(before I bought it). Just one of those parts that it happens to.
