Anyone have an issue with no sound from rear speakers after old 8.4 To 8.4 4C UAQ ?
Not on mine, I have a 2017 Ram 1500 and upgraded to a 8.4 with nav from the 5 inch screen and then upgraded it again to the 8.4 UAQ.

If you haven't let it set for a little while after install through several power cycles/hours let that happen first. It should read the BCM and change the display.

It’s been in for 3 months so far
Try pulling the inline fuse for the radio in the engine bay for 15 minutes then plugging back in. Conversely you can do the same with the negative battery cable.

Hello all! After months of lurking and reading 203 pages, I performed the upgrade but am left to ask for help.

4 days ago I performed 8.4 upgrade on my 2015 Ram 1500 Limited (5.7L V8). Original equipment was 8.4” UConnect (no CarPlay obviously). Bought the new 8.4 from a salvage yard which came from a 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star 5.7L.

Upgraded to:
- 8.4” UAS(Q?) P/N: (P)68428539AC (Aptiv)
- Foruly RAM Media Harness (Amazon)
- UOIENRT Compass USB AUX Port (Amazon)

Install went fine, only hiccup was the connector orientation for the purple fakra didn’t fit in the port, so I swapped the plastic housing from the original and it clicked in fine.

NOW (4 days later) - everything works great with a few exceptions which are critical in my opinion:
1) Backup camera shows black screen with “…camera unavailable”
2) Steering wheel volume/tune controls do not work (everything else does)
3) Outside temp shows Celsius
4) SXM works fine but no SXM app in menu
5) Limited settings options — bought OBDLink MX+ and codes show VIN mismatch, camera disconnect, (B2206-00 and B222C-00) etc.

I’ve tried:
1) Disconnecting battery
2) Removing fuse
3) Parking outdoors overnight
4) Reset to default settings

I’m at a loss! Any guidance???

Thank you in advance!

Is this from a 5th gen truck and not a Classic? If so, I'd imagine that is where your issues stem from and this would be a UAV radio.

I’m guessing 5th gen based on grill style from the VIN lookup. My only cause for hope is that I did not have the configuration or mounting issues that everyone seemed to need to modify in the other thread. Ie, the screen mounted perfectly, the UConnect radio I installed did not appear to have any un-used ports after I installed it.

Unfortunately the communication protocols are different from the 2009-2012 trucks and the +2013 trucks and the factory radios are incompatible.

I came to this forum because I have a very stock 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab Big Horn. I have been looking in to CarPlay for the old girl for a while. I started reading through this long thread and it became clear to me that there are a lot of variables with sourcing reputable radios. I went to M2Mods and filled out his contact form with my questions. @Mpgrimm2 reached out to me, we talked about it and he was able to set me up with everything I needed. He is very nice, very knowledgeable, very patient and helped me out tremendously. I paid the man and I expect my delivery soon. I will report back to you with my results after the install.

Just wanted to give more reinforcement to something that everyone here knows, @Mpgrimm2 is amazing and deserves a raise!

Thank you,

Just wanted to follow up with the installation on my 2017 Big Horn Crew Cab. I finished it in about 30 or so minutes in the driveway. I followed a stupid video that told me to remove the chrome trim ring around the center console and it broke off every tab but that's something else altogether.

I received all my parts from @Mpgrimm2 and even called him part the way through the installation.

When I initially hooked everything up it fired up like it should but didn't get any volume control or heater control from the radio or anything else. I was not alarmed because I was told that it could take 30min to 24 hrs. Because I was excited I went back outside every 30-45 min and after about 2.5 hrs it was perfectly alive!!!

I will say that I am super happy with the installation of the radio. The new radio is far brighter and crisper. It has HD radio along with CarPlay. It appears that every function, every soft button, everything is working perfectly.

I love CarPlay and have it in all of my other vehicles including my Road Glide, Trans Am and Work Car so not having it in my truck was frustrating.... Not anymore!

Beware of random radios and listen to everythign that @Mpgrimm2 says! He is very helpful and he made this a reality for me.

MANY THANKS!!!

Hey,

I just installed a UAQ in my 2014. Install wise, all went as expected. But those of you with the alpine system, have you noticed a significant drop in audio quality over the RA4? I have read a few posts that said there were some differences but the sound quality on mine (any source, Bluetooth, CarPlay over usb) is absolutely atrocious.

I know the alpine system isn’t amazing by any stretch, but in comparison to the Harman unit, now with the UAQ I have to lower the bass as much as possible, crank the midrange, and the treble is very sibilant regardless of the setting (for reference I measured the response with a calibrated microphone). All I can say is that I almost want to take the UAQ back out and put something else in.

I have tried to do a few checks. All speakers work, balance and fade work, I’ve checked that the truck proxi aligned and sent the eq curve from the bcm to the radio. I am on update
CANADA-ASO-8.4-JR-34.2.0-20200123-JOM2

Just curious what the general consensus is on how these sound?

Sometimes, the firmware just has bad sound quality. I have 39.6 for your radio if you'd like to try and flash it?
