Hi

I’m fixing up a truck with my son and he wants the raised letters painted red.

I will just going to clean them up and paint them with Rust-Oleum.

Sound good?

Since these are chromed plastic I suggest your surface prep be fairly aggressive. You may need to sand them or use a scuff pad on them before you paint. Rust Oleum and Dupli-Color's websites have some good instructions on painting plastics.

You might want to start there and find the best method(s) so the paint won't start peeling due to poor adhesion.

Nice little project, I am doing mine in the spring when it warms up.
I have found some colored already on E-bay, price is not bad.

I have a small hobby vinyl cutter (Siloughette Cameo) and make all my own decals. It comes with the software and is pretty easy to use.

Hi

Just to understand how the vinyl lettering method works you just adhere them directly to the OEM chrome letters?

How long does this last?

Just wondering if they come off in car washes etc?

I don't EVER use a car wash, but I don't think they would last either! I'm scuffing my chrome up and plastic dipping (painting) mine satin black.

Plastidip works really good on the emblems, I dipped mine black a couple of weeks ago and I'm happy with em

My letters are off the truck because I had to repaint the doors.

Is it better to plastic dip the letters while they’re off the truck or should I install the letters back onto the truck and then plastic dip them all at once?

I dipped mine before I put them on the truck because I thought itd be easier, but I ended up re-dipping them after I put them on the truck cuz I accidentally peeled the dip off of a few while sticking them on my doors. If you dip them before you put them on your truck, be sure you coat it down good. Also watch your fingernails of the back edges of the letters because you could accidentally peel it off (Which is what I did lol)

Dip them then put some glossier on there to give them some shine.
