How to remove night shade

I have night shade tint on my tail lights, Ive been pulled over by the same trooper 3 times now. He's never given me a ticket but non the less I want to try and lighten up my taillights so I stop getting hassled. Im thinking of wet sanding with some 1500-2000. Any better suggestions that wont screw up my lights?

I use gasoline, wet rag and wipe off. it's less work... I've also used lacquer thinner and acetone but they are harsh chemicals and may potentially damage the plastic.
Goof Off works also......
Plus brake and carburetor cleaner...
