I have a 2 piece driveshaft from a 2017 truck 8 speed 2WD. I just want to use the second half (with the slip joint) for a trans swap into a car. How do I separate the 2 shafts from each other? I thought the back one slipped into the front one but pulling on them, they do not budge. Any way to separate them besides pressing out the u joints?

Can you share a picture of which driveshaft you have?

Here are the pics. I am thinking I need to press out one of the u joints which gives me access to the big nut inside. Since I would have the u joint pressed out anyway, I would now have 2 pieces and achieving my goal. Would this be correct?

Yes. You have to pull the u joint in order to separate them. The nut holds the yoke on which is what needs to be removed in order to remove the pillow bushing. The nut does not hold the 2 pieces together how you are saying.
