I was doing a build sheet om Ram site and under engine Hurricane inline 6 the only choice seemed to come equipped with stop start feature. Does anyone have info on this new engine as far as turning off start stop feature, either permanently or every time i would start the truck?

There is a button to disable it, but you have to press it every time you start the truck if you don't ever want it enabled. On 2019 thru 2024 models there is an aftermarket product called Autostop Eliminator which lets you keep it off until you want to turn it back on. It costs about a hundred bucks. I had one on my last truck with etorque. I'm not sure if this product supports 2025 models though. The button is located near the shift knob (circled red in this pic)...

Here's a link to the Autostop Eliminator. Hopefully they will offer a version for 2025 models soon...

There is a button right underneath the drive selector and the 4 WD buttons. After you start the truck just push in the button and away you go. It really does not take any effort and after awhile it will become an automatic thingy just like turning the knob to R or D. :)

So, are the Hurricane engines basically E-torque configured? I hadn’t thought to check that out.

Not sure what you mean with that question. They do have stop/start but they do not have etorque so to speak. Etorque is more than just stop/start.

So their stop/start feature relies on the 12 volt starter and battery to turn them over from a stop? More similar to the GM system?

I remember reading recently that the stop/start feature can cause piston slap in an engine. Has anyone else heard about this? How much real damage or extra wear & tear?

I’m suspicious of that claim. Piston slap is usually most profound on a cold start before the pistons and cylinders have warmed up to normal clearances. I haven’t heard of it being an issue on starting a warmed up engine. I’m not a big fan of the e-torque as it’s a complex system which usually means some degree of issues over time. But I leave it operating because of the rumors that excess idling may lead to some issues with valve train wear and the Hemi tick. So fine, shut the engine down at stops and reduce idling time. Who knows for sure.

These forums always raise more issues than they definitively solve. But they are like an accident scene - you can’t turn away.

I'd like to see the rationale behind that claim, I'm a skeptical but maybe I'm missing something. The stop/start figures in engine temp and isn't letting things get too hot/too cold between cycles. Piston slap is the piston bouncing around side to side and impacting the cylinder wall, not sure how stop/start would impact that. Fewer rpms would actually reduce wear to piston rings, etc. though increase wear to other components.
