I have the new 2025 3.0L SO Twin Turbo with a 3.92 Ratio. Been loving truck so far...except for yesterday. We have a fairly steep driveway (gravel) that about 200 feet long. I originally had the Ram 1500 with 3.21 and went up hill towing our trailer no problem. Well yesterday we were towing the same trailer, same weight and got halfway up hill and motor just stopped. the Engine coolant jumped to 225 and the Trans temp jumped to 225 degrees. When I started up the hill it was 187degrees. The last truck temp would go up but not that high! Any way, when I press the gas no increase in RPMs but engine would just idle...so we were stuck on our own driveway....LOL Id decided just to sit there with hood open and let cool to 209 degrees (just an arbitary number as I ran out of patience) and the truck finally finished going up hill

Any ideas if there is a safety feature in these trucks for a high temperature trans?

My hemi did that the other day, Thermostat scrapped out. I wonder if they take the same t stat as the hemis. If they do look into a thermostat delete.

First off, you don't want to delete the thermostat. Especially on a modern engine. The only time I would even consider doing this is if it's an old school truck or car and I couldn't keep it from overheating using any other solution.

It seems like I watched at least one video in the past year where this same thing happened in a towing test they were doing. I don't remember who made the video but you might see if you can find any that talk about this being a safety feature to keep it from overheating. I'd also read through the owner's manual and see if there is any mention of this there. You should also contact your dealership about it since it's still under warranty.

Thanks. I called dealership and they’re going to hook up computer to see if there is any code. But if not they say it really has to be replicated to fix/diagnose. Ill update this post as find out more but not going to be towing for a bit unless someone tells me something i can check then ill pull trailer out of barn and do a test run again

I reccomend you do some research on this. You don't just simply remove the thermostat. I'd give better advice than that. :rolleyes:

Try to look at it from other people's point of view. The advice you gave was literally to "look into a thermostat delete" in your first post. That could easily be taken as you advising to simply remove the thermostat by people with little experience in trying to fix something like this. Adding a link would go a long way.

Much more helpful.

Sorry I was foruming and driving. i know bad bad bad. By the time I got to where I was going it completely slipped my mind. I will say the t stat delete kit is a pretty sweet idea. I replace my conventional t stat yearly on my hemi so I'm hoping this will be the ultimate solution.

Keep in mind that the thermostat is plastic in a plastic housing, and it fails in the closed position, there has been several failures out there so far.
So doing what @Wild one says would be a great idea!!

Not sure if this is the video you were referring to but they got the temps up to what OP said and it dont not throttle down

When the truck came to a rest the oil level pressure warning came on because it got so hot and thinned out. GO 21min in

Geez just over complicate a necessary item and than plastic crapola. Maybe Dorman come out with a replacement metal housing with real thermostat like the 3.6 oil housing.

@Dorman LLC. U guys watching?
