As most of you know, my two boys have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 for them to drive. I've replaced the tailgate, pads/rotors, grill, tires, taillights and headlights....

The new headlights are better than the OEM ones but are still lacking for light output....sorely lacking compared to mine.

I just ordered Morimoto Micro D2S projectors with black mini-gattling gun shrouds. Just need the 9007 MOPAR Spec harness. Have the rest of the stuff I need left over from my headlight build from my 2018....

I'll put the old headlights back in for the time being and use the new ones for the build.

When I get the parts in I will post up some pics of the retrofit....should be easier than the set I did with the 4th Gen quads on my 2018...

I have one mocked up. Morimoto Micro D2S 5.0 projector with black mini Gattling gun shroud.....clean and simple. Going to use the 35w XB ballasts, with the D2S 5800k XB bulbs.

I am perplexed at this point.

I wired up the relay harness from Morimoto (MOPAR Spec 9007).

I wanted to get the projectors lined up/level and adjusted before I put the lenses back on and seal them up. (Beautiful beam patterns & lined up perfectly and really sharp cutoffs)

Now here's the weird part. Before starting to get everything hooked up, my boys told me there was a lamp out warning on the dash. I checked the lights and found that the passenger side high beam did not work. I figured it was a burned element on the new light bulb that I put in there.

I installed the retrofitted headlight buckets in and wired the relay harness up correctly with everything grounded. I started the truck up and running. Turned on the lights. The headlights were in the low beam position. The driver's side headlight/projector, the shutter was open allowing the driver's side to be in "high beam" mode. The passenger side did nothing.

I used the multi-function switch and turned it to high beams...the shutter dropped and the driver's side was in low beam mode.....??? Still the passenger side did nothing.

After lining everything up and adjusting, I took the buckets out and put the old headlights back in. I drove the truck to pick up my kid from work and was seeing how the bad the difference was without the passenger side high beam working. Then the high beam started working on the passenger side again. ????

I'm thinking there is something going on with the wiring with the plug on the passenger side. Loose contact inside of the 9007 plug on the truck side not letting the signal get through?

Well, I checked the solenoids for the drop shutters on the projectors. One solenoid was bad that was in the passenger side projector. Will see if I can get a new one.

New projector....afixed it to the headlight bucket. Now for tomorrow's adventure....get it working, aligned correctly and then seal them up. Also bought LED fog lights, harness, fog light bezel trim. Will install them and get a new switch when I find a decent one.

I had a lot of fun building a set for my 4th gen. I learned a lot and when i have more time i wouldnt mind building a really custom set. They do take a minute or two to get all aligned and set right. My wife was mad she came home to headlight in our brand new $3500 oven lmao

Yeah, I've done that with two sets so far and my wife just looks at me and goes "really"....LOL. I think she gets more upset with the blue painters tape on the garage door to mark the OEM light cutoffs to get them lined up. :D

I had them lined up very similar to the way my 3500's headlight are set, before trying to figure out why the passenger side wasn't working.20221226_201803.jpg

Looks good. My very first attempt I was so happy got a lot done then put them in to see how they were aligned and they were pointed at the stars lol. Next attempt point at the ground. Finally figured I would power them with a 12v tester and I could pull them out and adjust Made it a lot easier.

SOrry, that's the 3500's lights....I had the HID build look like that. It's funny, every video or picture I've seen shows the HID cutoff lines lined up top to top, not what OEM is like on my 3500.

I got the lights all buttoned up last night, hooked up and they work. My only issue is that hi & low are somehow reversed.

The truck if it's in the low beam position the projectors have the cutoff shields dropped and are in high beam mode. Pull back on the multi-function switch and the truck shows its in high beam mode but the projectors are in low beam. I'm wondering if the wiring harness from Morimoto (9007 Mopar Spec harness) has the wiring switched up in the relay or something. Becaue using the regular OEM headlights, everything works correctly.

Still have to tweak the adjustment a bit. A little annoyed that the driver's side projector somehow managed to rotate a tiny bit to be off level.....

Me being me I installed a set of LED fog lights. This picture is just the fog lights.

20230115_224456.jpg

I had to wire them using a relay harness triggered off the parking/ turn signal fuse...so they're on with the headlight switch turned to park. They don't turn off with the high beams...

Couldn't get the OEM wiring to work....it shows that there was power to the fog light fuse and fog light relay, but no power to the wire harness at the bumper....wondering if I got a bad switch?

Maybe add resistor to the fog lights and try to hook up to oem harness. That year truck is weird with led lights.

Hmmm...I've replaced the tail lights and license plate lights with LEDs with no issues.

I'm going to keep checking...like I said I have power to the OEM relay in the fuse box and the fuse, I guess I'll keep going. I'm not as good with electrical on vehicles, as I am with the mechanicals.

yeah i hear you there lol. not a electrical guy myself i know enough to get into trouble lol. it wouldnt be a bad idea to trouble shoot the switch and see if it works. i know that generation truck shut headlights off on some HID kits. they didnt have the system these new truck have but there is something there.

Might look at something different for the fogs...a bit of shadow present in certain areas of the beam pattern....they're el cheapo fogs.
