So we had to jump the '97 1500 I gave my son because it doesn't get driven much, maybe once every 2 weeks. It has a cheapo walmart battery.
Anyway it started right up then died a few seconds later. When we re-started it the idle was at about 1800 rpm and would not go down. We tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes with no change.
Took out the IAC and it was pretty dirty. The opening where it goes was also quite dirty. Sprayed IAC off with throttle body cleaner. Also sprayed entire throttle body including the hole where it goes.
Truck now starts and idles perfectly.
I'm thinking the IAC got stuck trying to keep the truck from stalling.
